janetb1968 are you having the LP at the hospital you work at, and do you know your consultant. My doctor would not let have one he said my lumbar MRI and my brain scan was all the proof he needed. Do you know what type you have yet or are they waiting for the LP results? Hope it goes well, but at least you will be out for Christmas, blessings Jimeka βοΈ π π» π π€
Sorry my phone went a bit crackers π²the neuro said it's too early to say what type yet. The neuro is at royal preston hospital not my trust. My trust is east lancs NHS trust at Blackburn in Lancashire. It's near to me but an hours drive from me. I'll hopefully know more at the end of the week. Thanks for listening hope ur ok π xxxx
janetb1968 I was admitted to the hospital the first time that I had them. After that, it was either at a nearby infusion center or at home. Hoping that you will feel better after the IV steroids.
Good luck janetb1968 ! I had a LP as part of my diagnostic testing. It was done as an outpatient by a radiologist. I didnβt have any issues with it but made sure I was well hydrated both before and after. I had read that hydration makes a difference in both the ease of the test and in preventing the terrible headache that some people get after.
Thanks hun I've been told by my friend Alison who's a Brit but lives in Oklahoma to drink lots of caffeine for preventing the spinal headache. I'm prone to migraines so I'll be prepared thanks for listening π€Ά xx
Raingrrl is right, lots of fluids before and after and I was also told to go have something with lots of Iron afterward, the LP. Fortunately we were in San FRancisco area, and I got to have fresh clams and fettuccine after. it was yummy and the LP was no problem. The area was numbed with Lidocaine, I curled into "fetal" position and just laid comfortable while it was done. They gave me juice after and kept me laying done for a half hour. Easy procedure for me. Never had iv infusion hope it all goes well.
I had LP and got the worst headache in my life neuro had to go patch it up. I was down for 5 days. Lay flat for several hours when it is done, this keeps headache away. Good luck
Good luck with your LP. I had no problems with mine. The IV steroids made me so much better. I had almost no use of my left arm and could barely walk when I went in the hospit and 5 days later I was back using my arm and walked to my car. That was in April when I had my first bout with MS and received my diagnosis. Praying all goes well.
