Thanks for providing this forum. I was diagnosed with RRMS in September of 2015. I'm currently on Beta Seron. Copaxone and Aubagio didn't help whatsoever. I'm trying to find out how I can get life insurance. Since my diagnosis, I have had to leave work and lost my life insurance. I applied for a policy and of course was declined....

I don’t understand how they declined you insurance. I think if you cannot get insurance you can apply and receive Medicare/Medicaid. Good luck!!

Hi lynnkova that is a really good question and I honestly have no clue. I do think there are life insurance companies that don't ask about your medical history tho?

Someone else hopefully will know more than me!😄

lynnkova , I have no suggestions about the life insurance, but welcome to the forum. I hope you find lots of information and encouragement here.

Hi, you can probably either get a graded policy (that’s a policy that won’t pay the full death benefit for two years) or a basic burial policy that asks no health questions like the one Colonial Penn advertises on TV. Either way the death benefit will be limited. However, you can buy several if you want a bigger death benefit. You can always get an annuity if you want to leave money. There are no health questions with an annuity because it is not an insurance product.

@lynnkova. Hiya! Before I spout off a little about insurance, allow me this disclaimer. I know nothing about nothing. However...I do ponder and read / research a lot. Historically, I was the guy sitting/standing in a crowd of 10-25 people. Spoke only when the chatter waned, just enough to keep the conversation flowing. I did, however, learn lots from listening. Whoa! To your topic of discussion.

When I was diagnosed in 2011, I also wondered what affect(s) the diagnosis would have on lifetime plans. Your words seem to indicate that your employer was providing some type of insurance for you. It is possible the insurance was an "Accidental Death / Dismemberment policy. Or, it might have been a Group Term Life policy. Many times, these policies are onl in effect while the individual is employed. Due to the progression of my MS, I found it necessary to resign in jan 2014. Discussions with the H.R. folks {I don't like to call them human resources...will they be replaced by non-human resources? It is to laugh.) Ah, I digress.

To understand clearly, and properly, I followed an ancient saying passed on through many decades and generations. "If you want learn how to plumb, ask a plumber. So, I contacted an agent from an insurance company with whom I have a Term Life policy. Once we got through the smoke and mirrors of what to discuss, he provided the information I expected, yet feared. MS, among many other illnesses and medical conditions, restricts the policies of which we can qualify. Those policies which are intended to cover final expenses (burial cost, etc...) are not affected by health conditions. Please do research, and ask lots of questions, before signing for a "burial or final expenses" policy. In all those papers, and all that small and micro font printing, some expenses may not be specified. My father's "insurance policy was bought and paid for in a 3yr period ('96-'99). Well now, I reviewed the papers after we celebrated Pop's 93rd birthday, only to find that the opening and closing processes weren't covered. Hmmm.

Everyone, thank you for being patient with my going on, and on. Kinda housebound now. Anyway. Please contact the H.R (ha ha ha) folks and ask about hat insurance matter. Then, ask around about that Final Cost policy(ies). ?'s. Ask away...What the hey. This is a very friendly and informative forum. Take care. I hope this helps, even if it bring forth nothing more than a chuckle. C-Ya.
