Trying to find help for a MS sister

Hello Everyone,

I have a friend, Linda, who has been in the hospital/nursing home since July 12, 2017. She has MS, just turned 60 ye. old and this is the fourth time she has been in the hospital in an eight month period but this was the worse injury she's had.

They had to do hip replacement surgery on her and about 3 days after her surgery she developed pneumonia and was in very bad shape. They had to intubate her which didn't work so they inserted a trichotomy tube in her. After that she was transported to Kindred Care in Chicago and was there in an induced coma for almost 6 wks. while her hip healed, her blood pressure and heart rate stabilized. It took 2 times for them to try to get the trich tube out of her before it was finally successful. It has been a long hard journey for her and she has been back and forth from a nursing home to hospital bc of UTI. Linda has been the facilitator for our local MS Positive Outlook group for 15 years and always an active advocate for MS with a very positive outlook on life and MS.

I have taken over the group now bc I was the co-facilitator before.

My big concern for her and her husband, who by the way is wonderful and supportive and was so afraid she wouldn't make it, calling me for my input and to give me updates on her condition. Anyway, my concern for them is that their home is a typical bungalow style in the Chicago area and is not handicap accessible. I have heard of a group that does renovations for people that can't afford it as a charity but I can't remember who they are or how to get in touch with them. If anyone knows about this please let me know. Linda and Tom, her husband, are 2 really great people that need a lot of help right now and I would like to help them in any way I can.

Gosh, sure will say a prayer for them, I would suggest and internet search in their area and check with senior services for their city and county for referrals. I'm sure others on here might have some suggestions, too. Blessings, Lynn

craftygranny , you’re a wonderful friend!

I think I heard something about Boy Scout groups who do small projects to help with accessibility problems. I wish I knew more, but would check with MSAA to see if they have info about groups that do this.

We sure will be praying that these people can get the help they need soon. They’ve sure been through a great deal. Thanks for looking out for them.
