Anyone have any experience with incontinence issues and frequent uti's? A urologist wants to scope my bladder and that scares me.

Bladder Issues

I also have a problem with bladder control issues and kidney stones Issues
I can't remember if I had a bladder scope. I would ask how they are going to do it. When I have had my kidney stones out they put I stint in my uterus and when they take it out it hurts a little bit but yo u know it's coming out just grin and bare it and it will be done.
I know what your saying "easy for you to say" .
I take two medicines and they are Vesicare 10mg and Myrbetriq 50mg
For both I take them with what ever medicines I take at night because they
Can make you a little bit drowsy but for me at least once I got used to taking them I didn't have that feeling of being drowsy.
I took the Vesicare by its self at first.
What ever you do I would talk with your doctor if you have any questions.
I had the scope done no big deal, my urethra was narrowed, he widened it. After scope did 12 pelvic floor therapy sessions, started taking desopperin at night so I can go all night without an accident. I also take oxybutenin for bladder spasms.
Debs5997 , I can't count how many cystoscopies I've had over the years. It'll be ok. Just be sure to relax as tensing up could make it uncomfortable. I also have chronic UTIs. Mine are due to a neurogenic bladder (MS). I've taken a number of bladder drugs over the years-oxybutynin and myrbetriq most recently. But it was determined they wouldn't (and didn't) work for me because my problems weren't due to an overactive bladder as first assumed. It's good your doctor is ordering a urological work-up. It's best to know the cause for your problems and then go from there. 💕
I just don't see the point of going through this if in the end they can't help me. I've already been prescribed two medications that did not help.
@Debs5957 Let's hope that the scope will give them the information they need to treat you effectively! 😊 We'll be anxious to hear how this all works out for you.
Debs5997 , the urological workup CAN help you! I hope it does. I have a bladder stimulator to help make my bladder work and empty better. I've had fewer UTIs since it was implanted 2yrs ago. For me, my last workup performed by my present urologist was worth it all.
Hopefully, your workup will provide information and simple resolutions. 💕
I'm male and have been having same problems. I had a cystoscopy a few months ago. Been my biggest fear of all. They were doing other tests before the cysto that really were very uncomfortable, infact my Urologist said we could reschedule. My reply was "hell no, I wouldn't come back". So I had it done the same day. It was interesting. they had a 17" monitor and he turned it my way so I could see what he was doing. It was very informative. They did not find anything, but they could have. I'm glad I had it done. I take two meds that seem to work. I also self-cath, 3-6 time a day with no problems and no uti's [I use a simple but very effect way to sanitize my catheters, which I reuse]. I would encourage you to have it done, and relaxing is the key. Be good to yourself, you're worth it.
Hi Debs5997 ,
Cystoscopies aren't so bad. I've had one or two, plus a cystometrogram, as well as a couple of IVPs (intravenous pyelograms). They're a bit painful but not unbearable. I can't say anything interesting was found as a result of all this except that my kidneys are scarred from frequent infections and I have a neurogenic bladder (MS-related). I've tried several medicines--Detrol, Ditropan, Ornade, Vesicare--but all of them made my mouth too dry. Vesicare worked the best though. I could get through the night without so many bathroom trips.
I try to drink lots of liquid each day. I had many UTIs but luckily none for quite a few years now. I wish you luck and hope you can cut down on the infections.
I have had my bladder scoped before. It was not nearly as bad as I had anticipated. Good luck, it will be fine.
Hi Debs5997,
I have bladder issues also. I have had my bladder scoped a few times, the urologist makes it an annual thing. It is a little uncomfortable but doesn't last long. If I can do it so can you!!
Yes, this is how my urologist found I had IC(Interstitial Cystitis). Which is an auto immune disease. Double whammy for me living in the restroom and pain.
You are not alone!! I had my bladder scoped about three or four months ago and I was uncomfortable about having it done. It was absolutely no big deal, a Pap smear, years ago was much more invasive. So calm down, it will be OK.
I had 2 UTIs almost back to back and couldn't figure out why. A nurse made a comment that sort of triggered my solution.
Urine is at terrific specimen medium. I use various levels of Poise pads(day in house, day out doing things, night) and sometimes I didn't think there had been any leakage so would use it again through the day, because I don't want to be wasteful. Three hours is the magic time level when bacteria really begins to grow in urine. So, I inadvertently was re-infecting myself. Since I have been diligent about changing the Poise pad whenever I think there might have been any leakage. I have had no more problems. Hope that helps. Good luck.
I'm a male with MS and I had incontinence issues. I tried all the medications and they did not help. I had all the test and the doctor suggested Botox. It is done in the bladder. If you can tolerate all the other test you can tolerate this. Once it is done it last about 6 months and then the do it again. No more urgency and trying to get to the toilet on time.
I have had experience with both, and the bladder scope is no big deal. I have never had any issues with it, and I have had 4 or 5 now. It really isn't so bad, I would argue an MRI is worse.
