I have been on it for 4 years, works great for me, I can tell when I don't take it. Once Meds weren't delivered on time my walking sucked for the days I wasn't takin.

lindaz9 , Yes, I tried Ampyra for a couple of months supplied to me for free from the manufacturer. I am very sensitive to many meds and it made me feel drunk and I walked worse. Everyone responds differently and if I were you, I would give it a try - what do you have to lose?

THANK YOU. I MIGHT TRY IT. I HAVE TO SEE.

lindaz9 , I don't take ampyra, but I haven't met you and am sorry I missed your introductory post a month ago. I was absent due to grandkids visiting at that time. Anyway, I'm sorry you've been 'newly' diagnosed. I'm sure you have many questions and concerns. We're a warm and welcoming group and are happy you found us. 💕

I have to say I have been on it for seven years. I can say it has been working when I have forgotten to take it my legs do get weak. But when I place my order I am asked if it is working and I say the only way to know is to stop taking it, I am not going to do that I have foot drop. But i will tell you when I first got on it there was a good change in my walking. One thing make sure you are on time in taking it I set an alarm so I will not miss taking it. If you have any questions ask your pharmacist or doctor. I did ask if I missed a dose I was told if your with in an hour you can take it Good luck!

I've been taking the 4-AP compound for years before Ampyra was released.

I switched to it when it came out, but then back to the compound because higher doses work better for me.

Either way, It helps.

I have SPMS and my doc told me Ampyra had a 50% success rate with improving walking. He said I'd know within a month if it would help me. I tried it for two months just to be sure to give it a chance, but sadly I'm one of the 50% that it didn't help. But I agree with SueAB above, I'd try it for sure -- nothing to lose. Good luck, I wish you well!

@lindaz9

Hi, yes, I've been on it for years and I do find that it helps.

Be careful to take it 10-12 hours apart. Keeping a drug log helps. I find it helps my walking, climbing steps, and arm strength! 👍🏻

Hi lindaz9,

I was dx'd with ppms 10 yrs ago. I've been on Ampyra since it was first approved, and of all the MS meds I take, this is one I'd never want to give up. While it does nothing for the MS itself, it does help my walking. I know if I've forgotten to take it. Good luck with your decision either way.
