Has anyone tried this? This is another supplement I gave been trying to learn about.
Pharmaceutical grade Biotin?: Has anyone... - My MSAA Community
Pharmaceutical grade Biotin?
There's a clinical trial going, they may be accepting new people still.

I read about a study in France with promising results for those who took it for 8 months. I guess I'll add it to my list for my appointment tomorrow. There is so much to keep track of...

It's a 3 page list!
@suzy20 Don't stop asking questions! That's good!
I am not up on past or current biotin research, but I have started supplements. Taking 1,000 mcg (1 mg) daily. No idea really if that is a sufficient dose but thought I would at least start it. Haven't noticed any change in energy metabolism yet. (As an aside, though, my nails are much stronger! Lol.)
Will be curious to hear what you find!
suzy20 do u mean compounded high dose biotin? There are ongoing MS studies showing promising results.
Unfortunately it interferes with my Tegretol. And be careful. It can give false thyroid test results.
I believe I already posted this, or similar, but if not.. My neurologist gave me a script for high dose biotin, which seems to be the standard by most trials at 100,000 mcg, 3x daily. He did not know if it would help, hence the studies, but told me to research it, I did. Offered this to me because he saw I was doing so well on nutrition. It is not available over the counter at these levels at most pharmacies. Formulary pharmacies will make it up for you, or as I get it much cheaper (only relative), on line. Still too early to report, but it's worth a try??? Costly. Hope it matters. Even if it helps with one of the many items on my list....probably worth it. The study results will be of great interest to me, because every penny is important these non-working days.
MarkUpnorth Yes, you did post something like this earlier. Thank you. Not sure I am comfortable with taking 300 x my current dose. I'd have to look at the trials, what phase they're in, and safety data thus far. I'm not knocking what you're doing, just taking a different approach. Please share what you learn going forward. Not sure when I'll get a chance to research this, but agree that it is interesting! Any edge we can get is worth it.
Yes suzy20, it's Fancy1959 I have been on Biotin for each years if not more than a decade. My current fabulous neurologist also indicated that was something he wanted me on because it showed positive outcomes for MS patients. I take 10000 micrograms a day and I just buy it over the counter. That was the dosage my neurologist recommended and the one I was already taken. As an added plus you will grow hair like crazy and your fingernails and toenails will also grow long and beautiful. Decades ago I used it on my horses that people boarded with me that had foot problems. It did wonders for them and that's why I initially started taking it. And I was very happy with the results and realize my hair got past the stage that I couldn't get it to grow out of very quickly. Suzie it's just one more thing to try that has other added benefits for your body and shows no negative effects at this time. As always though please check with your doctors before starting any new supplement as I'm truly not a specialist by any means of my imagination. I hope that help. Until we speak again please take care.
Have been away for months but this caught my eye. My neuro nurse recommended biotin and Iโve just started it last week (3,000 mcg daily). I usually like dig in to the reasons for things but havenโt done it with biotin yet. In what way is it supposed to help MS, does anyone know?
Lilith08 Here is a link that explains a bit of what the France study showed. I believe that the patients who took the high potency compounded biotin for 8 months showed reported less pain and more energy. medicalnewstoday.com/articl...
