Hi Guys! First let me say. You all are amazing! I love my new friends I have made! I love the emails and PM's You all lift my heart with your prayers most of all and your words of encouragement! Thank you!
So on to the above title! I have been meaning to share this, but well. My brain keeps forgetting to share. Even though I use it on a daily basis and can not wait to hug my shrink next time I see him!
OK, ok, ok here it is. You all know the dreaded convo about how we are doing. You know what I mean. That family party. the person that has a cousin that had a friend who had a niece that had a school mate that had the flew and this cure worked for them. Or even worse. the with a sad sad face and low voice "how are you doing? Really How are you doing?" You all know. So anyway. My shrink told me this, take control of the situation by acknowledging them and saying this. "You Know, there are good days and Bad. This is a good day (even if it isn't) Thanks so much for asking. How are you?" Or instead of asking how they are, continue on to where you were headed to where you were going. I have been using this for three weeks now. via text, on the phone and in person. OMG! works like a charm! Like nothing I have ever used before.
I know you all laugh. But try it! I know it sounds weird. Also an odd topic of convo on a Sunday morning. But my stupid brain keeps forgetting what I get on here for and I start digging into other posts or convos on my posts or PM's blah blah SQUIRREL! Then I totally forget, close the lid and go about my day. I was just talking to one of you, it popped up in convo so I stopped what I was doing and started typing. But I am in a war with chipmunks. Honestly, and they started teasing me, So I armed myself (do not judge! this is seriously a problem.) sat back down. I swear they knew what was happening. They didn't show their faces! grrrrrrrrrrrr. So it took like an hour to remember to write this. So for me. It is no longer squirrel its CHIPMUNK!
Have an amazing Sunday! and Please no negative comments on my war. They are ruining my shed, my AC unit and my patio. Yes they are cute, but I have tried all the humane ways. They get out of traps. the repellants don't work, poison I can't use because of my dogs. So know diplomatic channels are closed and the button has been pushed!
Love to you all!
Rob

kdali Murder is such a strong word. Lets find another one. say remove from the situation, Yeah, That sounds good! Even though I am trying to bury the little Bastards so they never make another tunnel again!
I haven't had such a good laugh in a long time. THANK YOU for your wise and wonderful words! My dad and I have been after the red squirrels, but now the chipmunks are taking over! I had one yesterday (or the day before) run by me and make me jump until my good hand went flying and now is bruised and hurting... GET EM!!!!! Whether it be by massacre, murder or "outsourcing" I just want them gone!
Jennie
P.S. I'll be using the suggestion your doctor gave you Rob.
The best remedy I have found for chipmunk is a good cat. I had chipmunk tunneling under my garage and everywhere around my house til this stray cat decided to fall for my grandson. Since then I find love offerings of chipmunks all the time with no more tunnels. All of a sudden I became a car lover.
Can't blame the cats for not doing their jobs when there's to much resistance. Lol. I don't blame them at all. But they are very effective when they are able to prowl. No chipmunk s nice squirrels or other pesky creatures. Lol.
Doubled51 well, until my beloved over shedding yellow lab leaves this word, I have to take matters into my own hands! Sadly, my retirement buddy, his name is Rudy. Is on his last legs. I will need another buddy.
Looks like we are moving to town, and though I know we will still have bothersome critters, I say a very happy goodbye to deer, foxes, coyotes, ground squirrels, poison oak, snakes, etc.
It's great that you've found your perfect response, by the way!
Thanks for your humor Rob. I continue to look for the pony in all this manure. Your post helped me find something to laugh about.
Your "Good days and bad days" tip is a keeper. I've used in the past but this will help me bring it to mind more quickly. Things roll around in this head and forget to come out my mouth when I need it to! Then I'll think of it ten minutes into a fruitless conversation.
Gjs333 No worries, That happens to all of us. I just happen to have really pesky people from church and family. So I use it frequently and thus it is something I remember. Also, when he told me it was about a fellow Dr who just had his wife had just died with cancer. Cancer id a thing that I have dealt with repeatedly in my life, so it stuck. I guess he knew what button to push. So It is always at the forefront of my mind when a convo starts!
Karen-x ...I also use the 'today I'm ok' phrase when asked how I am. The truth is most of the people that ask don't really want to know. Most are clueless about the reality of having MS no matter what I've explained so i go with the 'today I'm ok' or 'same as always'. Since they don't ask a follow-up question, it seems those answers are enough.
