Marijuana.
There, I said it!
So, who's in, and who's out?
I'll start... I'm in. I wish there was no stigma. It works! Say goodbye to spasms, stiffness, and pain. Oh, yeah...a MD convinced me to try it! What a difference location makes.

Kj9681 it's MSFIGHTER. I have to admit that this 57 year old woman is pretty set in her ways. I applaud you if you found something that works and helps your MS and it's muscle spasms. There are multiple reasons why I could never smoke marijuana.
1. I didn't ever smoke anything while I was growing up in my early adult years. I would have a very hard time doing so now with 3 young sons in the house.
2. I also believe that what research I have read indicates that prolonged use of marijuana can diminish your mental capacity. With my Ms already affecting my memory and my balance it would scare me do anything that could negatively affect my mental capacities any father.
3.. Another reason I could not partake marijuana is that it is illegal still to use it even for medical purposes in the state of Kentucky where I live.
4. And finally did I mention that this old lady has finicky lungs that do not take kindly to smoke and it smells really bad to me.
I am seriously not trying to bash your idea, but there are multiple things to consider before you take anything into your system. additional . Now, everyone who partakes of the medical marijuana needs to make sure it is legal in the state where you live. And talk to your neurologist before you do start smoking marijuana to see what his or her opinion is on using it. Most of us with MS take multiple drugs to assist in the many areas that MS affects. Marijuana is a powerful drug even though we often forget that. Only your doctor would be able to tell you if it right interfere or have bad reactions to the regular drugs you take.
I do think your post will generate a lot of replies once everybody is up and about. So it should be interesting reading and thinking about what everybody has to say about your topic.
Hello! Nothing but respect! I understand your position.
There are many other ways to ingest that don't involve smoking. Try to end the stigma by seeing it as another bedtime medication. Of course only if you live in a compassionate state. I am totally not for recreational but everyone should have access to the same Medicine.
I'm in Va, so I have to wait as well... Things were different when I was in Cali a few hrs ago. Also, I ate it. It was CBD, and it came in the form of a little piece of candy thy taste like a tootsie roll.
Can't get it in VA, so I'm just waiting on the Gov't. It is NOT fair though. I know it works. It also taste great!
Norfolk just had a city counsel meeting a couple weeks ago on the decriminalization of it. They want to be the "stepping stone" for the state of VA. I personally can't function on it. I partook way too much many moons ago in high school & college! But if it were just the cannabis oil (I forget what the exact part of it is that doesn't give you the high, just the medical benefits)that was used in the edibles, I'd be all for it! I just quit smoking cigarettes a yr and a half ago so I really wouldn't want to smoke it......
There is no need to smoke in order to achieve medical benefits. You don't have to be a smoker or a previous user to benefit. However, I am skeptical about "edibles" because the batch might be mixed unevenly with some pieces containing higher content than others. And you have no way to take an exact amount every time. There are so many variables. The oil is certified for purity and content and is of course calorie free!
I think there must be specific step by steps when making edibles. Like "mix for 2 mins or more" type of thing. I mean, when you make regular brownies, there's not more egg in one than in another or more milk in one than another....It's evenly dispersed or it wouldn't cook correctly. So when making w/ cannabis oil or butter/cannabis mix, I'm sure its blended pretty thoroughly. But then, I think it's trial and error as far as how much of one to eat at a time.....?
The ability to accurately describe how much active ingredient is present also makes edibles problematic. Hey and what about all those calories 🤔
Taking it in capsule form is sounding better and better! I certainly do NOT need more caloric intake!!!
CBD Oil itself without THC added is legal in every state. You can find it on the Internet.
I don't trust doing that. There needs to be regulations for the intended use that I need it for. People can, and do, sale you anything online.
The Blue-Bird Botanical website has strict quality and purity control standards. Certainly I would be wary of a product sold on Amazon. Blue-Bird has guarantees of purity and content. Many common supplements have been tested and were found to have little or none of the claimed ingredients. Consumers have to beware of cheap supplements and vitamins made in other countries. But there are oils available that have strict verification of the contents.
As you know K just I live in the uk, where yes it is band, or illegal, as you say. I take oxycodone or OxyContin 2x aday, which is a controlled drug and whoever picks my prescription up as to sign for it. I am known by my Doctor as the Garthorpe junkie, I have been on it for 3 consecutive years and I dread the day when they have to ween me off of it. But it works. My body does not crave larger amounts, but I know when I am due it. I am one of those people who wants to feel better today, if I have a headache, I want to get rid of it, I am 60, so feeling better today is important to me, I do not want to wait until I am 70, I may not be around then. The drugs I take make living bearable, because the Rls and the ms together has been intolerable. I know what you are saying, maijurana want a controlled substance it could make life much more pleasant for e.g. Cancer patients who particularly near the end of their life. It's finding the happy medium, if used properly I hand not a problem. Jimeka
I'm in, Arkansas just passed medical. Not sure when it will be available. Not for smoking (as I have never smoked) but I would try any other way, pill, baking in brownies, candy etc.
The oil can be put into an empty capsule that you take with your other bedtime meds.
I pray you can get some of the CBD like what I got to eat in Cali! It really does work!
Hey AngieRowe!! Fellow Arkansan here. I was just about to say that they just passed it in Arkansas but you already did that. I have never been a smoker so I wouldn't ever smoke it but I would eat it so I may have to try it. My hubby has graciously offered to blow me a charge if I get some...LOL!
I hear you! Well, you'd be lucky if you find the CBD candy! I'm like, "come on, Virginia"...taking so long!!
Hey vduckery, glad to find a fellow Arkansas, where r u? I'm in Lake Village? Yep, a few of my family are waiting in line to try my brownies when they start dispensing in Ark! I have found one other Ark. She is in my contact list, under mepilot, she is in northern Arkanas. Good to find another.
OOOOKKKK! AngieRowe, I typed a reply yesterday and obviously never hit submit, closed my browser and it's lost and I am just now realizing it happened. LOL My memory sucks...I feel like I am walking around lost just trying to keep up with my whole world. I just have to laugh to keep from crying. I live in Little Rock. I will have to be sure to reach out to mepilot. I have seen her name before. Brownies are a fave so I'd be in line with your relatives if I were closer to you! Guess I will have to make my own. Candy sounds good too. Hmm, my waistline might not appreciate this.
Read someplace that they will be putting it into gum for MS spasticity.
That would be awesome! It doesn't even make you "high"...still, it's MJ. Makes pee dirty.
Patients with diagnosed diseases should be able to get a waiver so that their employers can't fire them (unless they have some other reason to). They are working on a "mouth scrape" that tells if the person smoked and how recently or if they only took it at night in oral form.
That's a good idea! Well, Trump likes the money, so, maybe, just maybe, he'll see the dollar signs and make it legal federally. I'll be hoping!
There is a medical card as l understand it. They made medical mj legal here ln ny, but you have to jump through a million hoops. .
Now, that's ludicrous! We didn't have to jump through hoops to get MS!! Not our fault! Why the punishment??
LOL are you kidding? It's ny state. They want to be the 1st state to be smoker free, HAHAHA like that is ever going to happen with me here!!
NY didn't want to pass it, so they made it impossible to get.
I agree cannabis works well for me too, I medicate 4-5 a day. Its medicine that works very well for me too!!! GOD BLESS!
Sounds like a good topic for an educational and informative future post...
I'm in on the marijuana! It quiets my side pain down and quiets my stabbing pain. I'm a firm believer in its medicinal power!
We have to remove the stigma and push for an oral capsule that patients take before bed. (The rxs I have to take to sleep are much scarier and deadly)
I don't think recreational is the best thing but every MS patient should support medical use without stigma. We deserve medicine. The national institute of health Owns the Patents on these chemicals specially for Neuro degenerative diseases.
That's one facet of the potential, Tracy
Not just something before bed! It's also something for quality of life and the awake hours.
The stigma stifles the reality of the situation and people's understanding of what can be truly offered to patients.
Exactly, Chris! It's sad that people are really that narrow minded, and systematically programmed. I mean, they said the same thing about cigarettes, and alcohol! Now I can kill myself for a bit of tax money! Give me a million breaks! I want my tootsie rolls back!
The potential uses are endless but we have to get rid of the stigma that using it makes you a stoner. If conservatives would see it as a pill like any other that Big Pharma produces the stigma would be lessened. Then everybody who sees it as something that they would never do can view it without that bias in mind. The idea that it's either smoking or brownies has to be erased so those who oppose it can accept it as medication. Research could be done proving the effectiveness to the skeptics and determining exactly what strains help which symptoms. (But only if medical was allowed nationwide)
Thank you! It was almost cruel to go from being able to eat my CBD, to not even being able to speak about it socially without looks! It works! Heck, they sell us food that has way more harsh consequences. Umm, heard of tobacco, alcohol? Dude...seriously!
I agree, Tracy. I'm in! But until it is approved nationally there will always be problems. If you get meds from a doctor in one state and then cross state lines you are in danger of arrest. To me that is just wrong. It can't possibly be any more dangerous than OxyContin!! KY is all for that (after you jump through enough hoops), but way behind in approving marijuana. I guess I will pass until/unless they get with the program and legalize it. I'm OLD, I hope I live that long.
I love medical MJ, I prefer to eat it. I think everybody is different on how much to eat , I like a
1/4 of a cookie . Medical MJ is legal in Maine. I'm sooo happy about that. Elle
Jey, KJ. I've been using medical cannabis since I moved to AZ a year ago. The state I came from did not have legal medical marijuana, but it just voted it in. My physician in that state told me to use it when I got to AZ, and my new neuro heartily agreed. They grow different strains for different things, and I found it to be much better than traveling down that opiate road again. I try not to smoke it because I don't want smoke in my lungs, but if I have to I use a vaporizer. I try to stick to the tinctures and the edibles, but I am very sensitive to meds so I usually only need a tiny dose. In that way, I always start with less than I am told to use, and if I have to have more on board to relieve the symptoms, I take a tiny bit more. That's how I work myself up to the dose that works for me. You can always add, but you can't take away. And I absolutely hate being stoned. It feels like I am out of control, which I guess was OK when I was 17, but the MS makes me feel like that enough that it doesn't need any help.
I'm in !!!
