Has anyone had Botox injections for muscle tightness or spasms? My dr suggested I think about since I'm having trouble bending my leg and I also had spasm in my groin muscle

I'm on baclofen 30mg and tizanidine 2mg. My dr concern is now that it's starting to get cold my leg will lock up like last winter. I have the bioness L300+ so I'll see how that works.

My husband has MS.Diagnose 2004. He was on oral Baclofin. In 2011 Dr recommend Baclofin Pump. It helped at first - the cold in his left arm went away and the hair on his arm and leg sorta grew back, but the area where the catheter was inserted in spine has caused serious problems in L4 and L5. About Botox, he has had injections off and on since 2014 in his arm/shoulder to help relax muscles, etc. His left hand is permanently clenched and he has drop foot on left foot.. And yes, his hand does and has relaxed some. Trouble is, the injections seem to give flu like symptoms to him. A case of dam if you do and dam if you don't. Possibly, for you there will only be the benefits of the injections. My good wishes go with you.

I've got the Botox shots in my shoulder I have one that locks up super tight and pulls the side of my body down... The injection only helped me for a few hrs and then I was back to where I started. Also did trigger points for my headaches still no help!

I've been doing Botox injections in my right leg for foot drop and stiffness about once a quarter...I've had no bad reactions and have noticed improvement in the stiffness and lack of dorsiflex motion. My doctors have strongly encouraged me to have a bacoflen pump and have surgery scheduled for November 1st Try to Botox and see if it helps

Our experience with pump : Husband's pump inserted March, 2011. We are now facing pump to be replaced in 2017. Replace every 7 years. Please, please read everything you can get your hands on about Baclofin Pump by Medtronic. Please. Pros and cons. My husband's back apparently was not a good candidate for insertion of catheter in lower (lumbar) back. Catheter was inserted between L4 and L5. Husband's first surgery 2004 L4/L5, minimum surgery. This is when we found MS. When he did pump, doctors did not tell us that was exactly where catheter would be inserted. 2014, he started having terrible pain coming from back. Back Surgery - January, 2015 extensive surgery, L1, L2, L3,.L4 & top L5! During surgery, catheter became disconnected from spinal, leaking spinal fluid and Baclofin for 6 months before doctors took us serious. Back in surgery June, 2016, same surgeon, sewed catheter back in with a pocket book stitch. Tacked catheter line to a muscle. He is still in GREAT PAIN! Finally went to another neurosurgeon, after CTA test , she told us there was nothing that could be done because all of his nerves in that area are Clumped Together like cooked spaghetti that has been left out. If she were to operate to fix, he would more than likely be paralyzed. Her exact words. So please, read every thing possible about pump. We thought we had, but guess we didn't read enough. Oh, yes, should the pump fail, we have to keep oral baclofin and we have call 911 immediately. Special injections are needed that they might not even know about. We both carry can emergency cards with instructions. You also have to be careful regarding MRI's.

Thanks so much for your advice

To be honest

I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing

But several docs have told me to do it

I've already had lumbar surgery fused s1 l3 and 4

Do you mind me asking how old was hub when surgery ?

He was 56 when pump inserted. He was 63 yesterday. First back surgery 2004 he was 51. I certainly wish you only the best. But read everything you possibly can - pros and cons. Neurologist first wanted him to do it October, 2010. Even did outpatient for the test. They put the Baclofin by needle in his spinal and then watched to see how he did and the effect. They kept telling him he was such a perfect candidate. At first he said NO. But by March, 2011 he consented. Just please be informed. Everyone is different. As we all know MS Is different in each person. Blessings.

Update on injections and cold weather

I don't need to have Botox injections at this time THANK GOODNESS!!!

The doctor stated as my muscles start to get stronger I should be ok. The issues now are my big toe and little toe. If they don't improve meaning big toe bend and little toe stop hurting we will revisit the Botox option. In my mind I feel the big toe moving and bending but its not.

She increased my tizanidine from 2 mg to 4mg. I can't tell if its working but I'll let you know.

My Bioness thigh cuff has helped with the cold because my leg tried to lock up and the cuff pushed my leg forward.
