Does anyone have any advise of how to get referred to another dermatologist?

I've asked to be referred by my doctor to another dermatologist as the one I am seeing has not helped me. He thinks I should stick with the one I have. Does anyone know how I can request a referral myself?

Hi Sah_31,

I have had this problem as well. If you ask for a referral, your doctor should take that on board and help you find a dermatologist you are happy with. I had to be persistent with my doctor and finally he found me a dermatologist who is fantastic. Despite a person being an 'expert' it doesn't always mean you have to be happy with everything they say. Stick to your guns and if necessary go and see another doctor. Good luck!

I agree with Kate, be persistant & just say you are not moving forward & would like to see someone else. Its the only way to change things.

Hi, yes decide which hospitals you might want to travel to, go on their website and look up the dermatology departments, then google the names of the staff until you find the most experienced or suitable for your condition, the one who feels the most likely to help, then go to your GP and ask for a referral to the specific person. Take note of the name and address as otherwise the GP may not want to find the time to get hold of the details and may fob you off! Hope that helps, I did that with another field of medicine and it did.
