Athletes foot. I've had enough.

Hello all. New to this community but not to HealthUnlocked.

I've had athletes foot for as long as I can remember. Decades. Mostly on my left foot and is manifested by the usual insane itching between and on tops of toes and over the years my toenails have become thick and brittle. Again only on one foot.

I'm in my 40s now and really don't fancy having to deal with this for much longer or if I get too immobile to deal with my own feet. I don't want to leave that to my family :)

I started an offensive of rigorous cleaning, drying then applying EITHER a medicated powder OR a cream, the one linked below for reference:

amazon.co.uk/Scholl-3071666...

Amazingly things improved drastically and even the nail on my big toe fully recovered, grew back, and is looking healthy. However, the itching is back. It's almost as if my body is now immune to this cream.

I've gone back to having sore, itchy, and rough skin on the tops of my toes and in between and I must be scratching it in my sleep as it will bleed on occasion.

Any advice or help would be really helpful. I think I have tried every alternative method too including Vicks vaporub, vaseline, and Listerine mouthwash! I read somewhere that the original yellow one had an active ingredient but although that seemed to work for a few days it's back.

I have gone through 9 tubes of the above cream and it does help suppress the itch but it's an expensive and only semi-successful treatment.

I have spoken with my doctor and they aren't sure what else to suggest. I can't take any tablet-based treatment as I have liver problems and these tablets are very hard on the liver. All that is left it to ask the GP for some prescription-strength cream or some ancient cream or balm made from ground down unicorn horns!

Thanks for reading.

I have been prescribed Terbinafine Cream 1% by a dermatologist to deal with 'latent' athlete's foot that she thought was exacerbating th. e eczema over my toes, feet and ankles. I have to apply twice daily and use for 4-6 weeks, as she said, 'even when it looks better'. In the past I have used tea-tree cream to address athlete's foot which is good for small areas and is worth a patch test first.

Please Do read, the Advice, I have just given 'Heartproblemshope', which, in part anyway, addresses this 'Problem' directly.

Hello.. Fellow left foot sufferer here. I also have permenant af. As the daughter of a podiatrist I can tell you that you might not ever get rid of it but.. Do try this... Go to your pharmacy and buy Mycota. This is a cream applied twice daily which instead of killing the fungus, it changes the PH level of the skin on your foot meaning fungus can't thrive there. I use it once daily and it keeps my af at bay with zero itching.

Use this cream for 8 weeks and then switch to daktarin for one month to kill off any risidual fungus. It will either work or not but in either case from my experience and knowledge of this condition, Mycota is a fantastic alternative treatment. Good luck.
