Giant congenital melanocytic nevus

I have a question for my partner, who has this on his back. It’s quite hairy and while I don’t think he should feel bad about it (I actually kind of like to pet it) I know it makes him self conscious to do things like take his shirt off in front of other people.

I’ve been trying to find information online, like if it would be safe to either shave the hair or use something like Nair on it once in awhile? Just so he could do things like go to the beach and feel better about himself. The mole itself isn’t that dark, underneath the hair.
