My fiancé got quite severely sunburned about a week ago on our holiday in Mauritius.
Naturally when he first was burned it was very painful and red but it was almost a week ago and this has now started to turn purple! He says it is just tender to the touch now and there is no evidence of swelling I was just hoping for some advice!

Witch hazel compresses - soak a towel in witch hazel and lay it on there. It has salicylic acid in it, like aspirin, and helps sunburn to heal. Also take oral aspirin, Take buffered or with 1/8 tsp baking soda in 2 oz water so it's buffered.
