hi Kaye . We have a hoist fitted in the car so Mark is seated in the front seat. It’s a Motability car and the hoist is one of the adaptations they can do. We got a new Motability car last year with the adaptation - we had to make a contribution to the cost.

If you already have a Motability car and want it adapted mid lease it costs more.

The hoist is great but is a little tricky for me to use by myself as I have to guide Mark’s legs in at the same time as navigating him into the car. If the hoist was bought outright I think it would cost about £5k.

Hope this helps

Hi, we have a hoist system fitted to our private car so that Sue is lifted from the wheelchair into the car. Originally had one fitted in a motobility car with a minimal contribution. You can change motobility vehicle mid contract if it becomes unsuitable and needing a hoist fits that criteria.

A new hoist does cost about £5000 depending on which vehicle.

autochair.co.uk is the hoist company and they are extremely helpful.

Hello,

Have you thought about a wheelchair accessible vehicle ( WAV) if you are struggling.

Just push the wheelchair in the back and if it's a Motability vehicle the upfront contribution can be from around £3000.
