just had a quote for a walk in bath with a seat that goes up and down for easy access, £11.500 😱😡 and that was with a discount and VAT exempt. Does anyone know of a bathroom company that’s reasonable.

Thanks

Sue

Hi, I've got a motorised seat in a standard bath. cost 0.00 via neuro OT on the NHS. This works well for me as the right leg is not hugely affected so I can grab a rail with both hands, lift right leg into bath then manually lift the badly affected left leg into the bath, twist round and sit on the seat. I do this supervised owing to risk of falls. Obviously getting out is reverse procedure,

The motorised bath seats can be bought for £350-450 so maybe fittting one to your proposed walk-in bath is a way of getting the cost down.

Trade price of a basic walk-in bath would be around 1200-1900 so your quote does look high unless you have a massive amount of plumbing/tiling/flooring/structure/decorating work in the job and/or gold plated fittings and Italian marble....

On the other hand come this time next year, your electric bill for heating 2 bathfulls of water a week is going to be more than £11K anyway. I thought my neighbour was eccentric for buying a hot tub with an integral wood burner - opinion revised !!

We had a Bellavita in bath chair. Cost about £300. This was fine until not long afterwards it became too dangerous, even with two of us helping, to get my husband onto it and into the bath. So took the plunge and had bathroom redesigned into a wet room with non slip floor. I think the final bill was less than your quote.

Funding can be had but needs to be applied for months in advance. Would have been too late for us.

Don't forget costs are VAT free and also the work attracts reduction in council tax.

Good luck.
