Hi guys, I’m a carer for a patient with MSA, would love to hear about your experiences as this is my first, I’d like to know what to expect and if there are ups and downs, or if once things start to go down hill that’s the start of the end.. even though from what I’ve read everyone’s different.

Hi, As you are learning MSA is different for each patient do we can only pass on our experience for our own set of scenarios.

In general you need to plan and write notes about how to deal with the symptoms you come across. Changes will just happen but I've found that usually occurs after a bout of an illness.

infections are really serious as most sufferers own immune system is being overloaded trying to deal with the condition. So chest and utinary infections sort very very quickly and talk to the GP about an emergency antibiotics kit.

Keep a daily log and list all symptoms you will find it useful to build a case history.

Good luck caring for someone with MSA is a constant changing challenge.

Thank you for your reply Paul. The more I read the more I understand that everyone is not the same, this week as extremely been challenging, and as I work for a company we have daily logs medication administration charts and a small team that converses regularly, my customer has a lot of symptoms from this terrible disease and yet I think thispast week has developed a new one whilst getting an infection, palliative doctor is informed and coming to do a check.

my dad , who sadly passed away in march in hospital , had swallowing problems , so was going to have a peg feed , but what with the virus etc , he had had enough , so he refused feed and went peacefully, he was 83 though , I think the swallowing can be getting to last stages , maybe depending on length of time with the condition as well , so many questions , such a great job you are doing though xx
