my mum couldn’t wake my dad the other morning , so he was admitted to hospital -they seemed to think he had had a stroke.

he did have another chest infection which they are treating. He is staying in and having an MRI today . We explained that his speech is bad anyway.

i just wondered if anyone had experience with strokes and MSA

regards Elaine

Hi, going into a very deep sleep and being non responsive seems to happen to many people with MSA. It started happening to my dad in the last few years of his life.

He was suspected of having a stroke as the left hand side of his face seemed to have dropped and his speech became more and more slurred. However, it was decided that this was the progression of the MSA rather than a stroke. Dad was too poorly to move into hospital to have a scan, so we didn't really have a definitive answer.

If your dad is able to have an MRI it should give you the answer. Sending you all lots of love and strength to help you get through.

Hello hope he is doing better. It's quite nerve-wracking to see odd symptoms. I know what you mean about it's hard to tell - dad has sleepy days anyway, and poor speech, and a droopy face. It was only cos one of the carers that knows him really well came in, that he was suspected to have had a tia one time - he was even more unresponsive than usual. Not engaging with food and drink was a clue :) The doctors said if it was a short, self correcting episode it might not show up on scans anyway. If it appeared to be ongoing and not stopping they would have tested his blood chemistry, but he was fine by the next day. So he just rested at home. Hard to tell if a coincidence, or caused by msa deteriorating.

yes it doesn’t help that they don’t know much about msa , but he is still in hospital being monitored, and they are still saying it is a stroke , but he appears better than ever to us

my dad has had several TUI and it was suspected that he had one final big one which send him to sleep totally peacefully this past July. But he was poorly already and was in hospital at the time with a infected elbow.

All this means I keep a close eye on my hubby for signs or symptoms, but as they are all different you never know if and when anything happens. <<<hugs>>> to you and your family
