Positive Care Plan with AIG.

I have the above policy which I pay through my company that I work for. It is for any type of cancer. I am confused, what ET is classified as, some internet site says it is a chronic form of leukaemia, other say it is chronic myeloproliferative diseases. The above policy covers leukaemia, but I don't know whether it covers the other one. I suppose I can only try. Any clarification on what ET is would be most grateful to make up my mind whether to claim or not.

Hi Sjdard, Essential Thrombocythaemia is one of the myeloproliferative disorders, or neoplasms as they are called in the US and some European countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) reclassified all the MPDs, Polycythaemia Vera (PV) and Myelofibrosis (MF) and ET as MPNs in 2008. Hope this helps.

Hi Sjdard,

The association of British insurers has recommended that insurance companies to reclassify ET PV so that it included under definitions of cancer. A lot of people have been chatting recently about making claims for critical illness and some have done this successfully . Worth checking out . Hope this helps

Well I tried to claim on my Asda PositiveCare Premier Policy. Got letter back today saying the diagnosis does not fall within the cancer description listed in my policy. It is for cancer at a primary site as a first diagnosis and one of them on the list was leukaemia. I know that ET is in a grey areas, some say it is a cancer other say not. Well I was a bit annoyed to start with as in the letter from them gave me the wrong condition, they said I had essential polycythaemia, and not ET. Just would like to ask if anyone else has tried to claim and was successful and should I try and appeal, I still unsure what this condition is.
