I've been seeing Dr. Selina Luger at the University of Pennsylvania's Abramson Cancer Center (pennmedicine.org/providers/....
Thanks for your reply. I’m wondering what you find helpful about her. I saw Elizabeth Hexner 2x and found her dismissive of concerns about rising platelet numbers
I live in State College, PA. After I was diagnosed with PV in 2015, I saw my local hematologist, who first treated me with phlebotomy, then with HU. My HU dosage eventually needed to be increased, after which I developed serious skin reactions. The dose was reduced again, but then I needed frequent phlebotomy once again. In 2022, I decided it was time to find a MPN specialist, and I went to Dr. Luger. She put me on Ruxolitinib, initially 10 mg twice a day; I soon became anemic, so the dose was reduced to 10 mg/day. Now I'm taking 10 mg am and 5 mg pm, and my blood count numbers have remained stable. After one face-to-face visit, I've been using telemedicine for my twice-yearly visits; after all, blood count numbers are the critical inputs in my case. I've found Dr. Luger to be open and responsive to my questions and concerns. She (or her nurse practitioner) responds quickly to questions submitted through the Epic portal.
Hi, I see Dr. Shannon McCurdy at University of PA. Penn is an absolutely wonderful place to get your MPN care.
Hi again, Alliance Cancer Specialists are good for finding a local hematologist/ oncologist, yet they do not have MPN specialists. I see a hematologist at the Sellersvile location and find it is a good idea to have both MPN doctor and local doctor to consult( when possible).
