Tests whilst on Momolitinib

It looks very likely that husband will be starting on Momolitinib to treat his post essential thrombocythaemia myelofibrosis. He is nearly 82 and has no other issues. We travel an awful lot, but his haematologist has said he needs to be around for the next 4 to 6 months for the frequent tests that they will carry out on him. I would be interested to hear from others on this site what sort of tests they will be looking to do on him and the frequency. Yes, of course we will be asking the same question of his haematologist, but I always like to hear real life experiences of people on this site. Thank you very much in advance.

that’s really one for your Haem, we are all different, I would say his advice to stick around is solid

I had bloods taken after 3 weeks to check liver function, etc. Side effect of dizziness/ vertigo was troubling. I guess other tests / frequency depend on how yr husband responds. Seems like a good plan to stay put for a bit.

Suggest getting a schedule from the MPN care team so you know exactly what to expect and plan for. I would think that sticking around until you know how he reacts to the momelotinib makes a lot of sense.

I would expect that they will want to do a CBC and CMP (liver & kidney function) every 2 - 4 weeks for a while. Likely will check iron levels at some point. Also on the list - Assessing for symptoms/side effects, spleen size, cardiac and blood pressure, and potential for infections.

Your MPN care team can give the most accurate information on monitoring to be done. Suggest you ask not just what and when but why as well. It is best to fully understand the monitoring that needs to be done.

Wishing you both all the best.
