HU not a fit for me

I am no longer on Hydroxurea was not the right fit for me. After consulting with MPN Specialist concerning side effects, he moved me to Jakafi and have had great results with this. Was diagnosed with ET in fall of 2019. I am an 89 year old female and thriving. Live alone with no help and have an active social life. Retired from publishing career 23 years ago.

Good luck. I can only reiterate advice Hunter gives to be your own advocate, do your research and find the care team that meets your needs. When things weren’t working for me I was told I had no other choices, I didn’t accept that and.never looked back.

Hi, glad to hear your Hem advised you so well I don't think Hydroxyurea is a good for for anyone, but for years it was the only thing on the menu. I was on it from 2007 for ten years and boy was that awful. the dose has to increase as your body gets used to it, it gets quite toxic. I'm glad you had a better drug available. All the best, glad to hear life is treating you well.Kind regards, Sally.

great to hear your news. I too am 89 and Hydroxy seems to be tolerated by me . I’ve been taking it for 7 years . I haven’t felt so great recently though and keep having recurring U.T.I’s and lower abdominal pain which I think may be related to Hydroxy. So glad you have self advocated, which I try to do also and research as much as possible. I have ET JAK2. Best wishes.
