I know many readers with PV will wonder if they should not try some activities because of the fear that they will not be able to cope. I just wanted to write a positive piece about a ski trip I have just been on to give readers some encouragement. I understand every person with PV may react differently but I had all the concerns before going that most would have. Flying and being at high altitude in the mountains, the effect of the cold and the effects of the fatigue as skiing can be quite hard work. Well, I can say that the first day I wish I had not even gone. I had an episode of fatigue where I could hardly ski at all, however if you have some good buddies with you, you can get through almost anything. Don't give up! The next day was better and each day after that got easier and I am happy to say I had a great time. I can't deny I was extremely tired for a few days on my return but the benefits and the sense of achievement was well worth it. I should add that I am not a good skier and that I am 67 years old. My advise is be sensible, listen to your body, but sometimes push to your boundaries. Don't let PV dictate your entire life. Good luck 👍

Skiing with PV

Glad to hear you enjoyed your ski trip. You are quite right about not letting a MPN dictate how you live your life. Carpe Diem is an apt motto for all with MPNs. Thanks for being a great role model for doing so.
Great post. Thanks for the positive message Fieldsy
Great post! Love to hear positive stories! Kudos to you.

so pleased to hear that you did enjoy your trip. Maz
Elevation is key. I ski all the time, almost 30 days this year and I come from lower elevations. When I ski out west I do look for mountains where I'm staying below 8,000 feet elevation.
I agree to push the boundaries in order to get anywhere. And of course listen to the body.I am also a beginner with snowboarding and I usually last 2 full days max then I am just drained.
Thank you for posting the experience
yes I go & fine but I was always exhausted first day even when fit. But altitude does effect me but gets to not give up on activities so well done keeping fit helps us 👍
Hi there - Brilliant to read your post about your ski trip, it's all relative isn't it, as in yoga (not quite so taxing an activity perhaps!) but the ethos there is it's not a competition, do at the very best of your ability on that very day, and revel in the accomplishment you feel during and after your practise, I use this example as non competitiveness is the key here, and can be translated into all sports and activities to maximise the enjoyment of being in a physical body - carpe diem indeed, and it is so good for us especially to move our bodies and get that blood flow going....not to mention the endorphins - and so thank you for sharing this inspiring post!!! X
What a lovely post so glad you enjoyed it .
haha. Any untrained skier will suffer the first day like you did. PV or not. I will go for a 3week skiing trip in march.
I have ET and I have let it take over my life. I have a new grandbaby in Taiwan that I have never held because I’m afraid of something drastically happening if I fly over from US. I’m trying to convince myself to go this year.
