Guys Visit

Guys MPN staff are amazing . The visit was well worth the travel and overnight stay that ensured I arrived on time. Bloods, history and vitals all done followed by a long unhurried chat with the consultant, who was so knowledgeable , kind and keen to get a plan in place. I’ve got a bone marrow biopsy date followed by another appointment to review everything. A change of meds is in the offing too, swopping hydroxy for Ruxolitinub. I’m so relieved and grateful for such a positive experience.

Hi all. My update comes on the back of my first consultation at Guys, which I requested as a back up opinion on my condition, as they are the leaders in MPN treatment.I was very lucky to be seen by Dr Patrick Harrington, who was absolutely charming and without any pretension. He went through all my previous blood results from my local Medway Hemo team and carried out a full new round of bloods whilst there. He gave a full explanation of MPN and listened to all my concerns over symptoms I had, and are experiencing. I was very pleased that he was completely satisfied with the treatment Medway Hemo had administered, since being diagnosed in May and I am pleased as my consultant at Medway( Dr Madu) has been again lovely, but as this is a rare condition I wanted the best advice as possible, hence the referral.

My results from Guys were ready and emailed to me, in a format that was so easy to read, the following morning. Thankfully the Hydroxy is doing its job and now controlling my platelet count, so I will now carry on with my local hospital treatment plan under the umbrella of Guys, where my next appointment with them will be in a years time, which I am very settled with, as they said if anything changes with my condition, to get back in touch with them.

All in all I have received A1 treatment from both teams and am very grateful to them for it.

Congratulations! Very glad and happy for you to have made the connection with Guys. Getting confirmation of your treatment to date and conviction to continue is well worth the extra effort it took to meet Guys. :)
