I have always been weight conscious, I am very active and a runner plus I weight train twice a week for the past 30 years! I was diagnosed 3 years ago with PV and unable to shed any weight no matter what I did. I have been doing intermittent fasting now for 6 weeks and the scale is finally moving ! I am elated !!!! It took 5 weeks for the scale to move at all and now going on week 7 lost 5 lbs!!!!!!! I am beyond happy. It may seem silly at my age 73 but keeping in shape has always been apart of my life. There is hope on Hydrea and losing weight even though it takes forever.

Congratulations! So glad you figured out a successful strategy! I am not a runner but try to eat healthfully and exercise (especially walking) daily. I also was diagnosed 3 years ago and on Hydroxy for a year, then switched to Besremi a year and a half ago. After escalating to a fairly high dose (450 mcg) and moving to a retirement community early this year, I have gradually lost 12 pounds without trying too hard. Not sure if it is the Besremi or just changing my routines. In any event - it's nice to see some positive outcome for you... we MPN's folks have to put up with a lot and it's great to have success! Kudos!

I’ve been taking Hydroxycarbamide for 17 years. I have struggled with my weight and piled on the pounds following covid shielding and making too many cakes during lock downs.

Last November my GP said my blood sugar was in the diabetic range and as I didn’t want another illness I took myself in hand. I’ve now lost 17 kgs by reducing carbs and snacking. It’s come off steadily and worked for me. My blood sugar is in normal range.

Good luck with your journey.

I was diagnosed with PV in 2020 and have been on Hydroxy since then. Last year, I lost 25lbs as a result of taking on a very physically demanding job. The job helped whip me back into shape, and many of the physical symptoms that I attributed to the disease have since gone away.
