Alternative to Domperidone tablets?

Eagles52 profile image

I've joined here because I'm interested to find out what tips others have on helping nausea/vomiting which I'd likely to be caused by the hydroxycarbamide even though it's a low dosage. I've been given Domperidone tablets but after having done a bit of research on it, I don't wish to take it (I believe it's banned in the USA!). Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you 😊

hi Eagles52, there are different types of anti-sickness medicines available, it would be best to discuss with the doctor who prescribed the Domperidone for you, to ask if you can be given something else. Best wishes, Maz

You are correct that Domperidone is banned in the USA due to risk of arrhythmias. If this is a concern, then as Mazcd suggest. contact the prescriber for an alternative. If you are experiencing nausea with vomiting at a low dose of HU, it may be that you are intolerant of this medication. Fortunately, there are other cytoreductive agents to consider. Suggest you consult with a MPN Specialist to review all MPN treatment options.

Hi there. Just to endorse what Hunter said. If the Hydroxy at a low dose is causing you ongoing nausea / vomiting then definitely worth exploring other drug options. An alternative treatment may be preferable to loading more drugs into your system. Let us know how you get on.

I found the HU nausea goes away as your body gets used to it.

Thanks for your reply. I'm on the lowest dose and am praying it stays that way!
