dizzy and feeling faint

Husband is high risk MF 74 yrs old and currently on Jakifi. today after my husband labs we stopped at the store to pick up some groceries and he had a fainting episode where he could not stand any longer, flushed ,sweaty and dizzy to no end. We got him a chair to sit in but he was just not well. His labs came back where his hemoglobin was 8.2 and hematocrit 27 which is good for him since when he goes below 7.5 and 25 he needs a blood transfusion. He is always fatigue from the disease and the medication but this happened once before but this time worse

His blasts this time was 7 which is high

Overall has anyone ever experienced this before? I called his care team and they said infection ?

He got home and slept a little and feeling better but it was scary when it happened

Thanks

Unfortunately, this happens frequently to me. I am in a similar place as your husband. I have MF intermediate/high-risk and I have been on jakafi since June. Prior to taking Jakafi, I was on HU. Yesterday I was out to lunch with my partner and his daughter and fiancé. My partner was wearing a zipped up fleece jacket and I felt like I was going through menopause. When we stood up, I felt very unsteady and they went to do some errands and I went home. My guess is he doesn’t have an infection. It is just part of this disease.

thanks for the response since this time when it happened it was worse he could not stand up and was so dizzy and he was leaning on the cart to hold himself up before they could get him a chair I had to use a wheelchair to get him to the car

He was on the same as you started with HU then on jakifi since April and they are in the process of switching him to the newly fda approved drug Ojjaarra. No idea what triggers this

His hemoglobin is pretty low. That causes anemia which can make him feel this way. Different hospitals use different numbers. For example, Mayo Clinic’s normal range for men is 13.2-16.6. So 8.2 is really low.I hope the new medication helps.
