Expiry of Jakafi (Rux ) Patent # 7,598,257 (Incyte)

Patent expiration date is : 24th December 2027

Patent use: FOR TREATMENT OF POLYCYTHEMIA VERA (PV) IN PATIENTS WHO HAVE HAD AN INADEQUATE RESPONSE TO OR ARE INTOLERANT OF HYDROXYUREA

Thus we can hope that a generic appears around that time for the patients that actually have to pay for this extremely expensive medicine.

You should speak with your doctor about the cost of Jakafi. Incyte has a patient cost assistance program. My doctor submitted a request for me and it made an enormous difference.

Have you thought what you want from your treatment. It's worth looking at the posts from Hunter & EP Guy on the subject of Hydrea vs IFN vs Rux. I did this and read many of the reports that have been posted on this forum. It opened my mind. I did find when I advocated for IFN my haemologist said she thought that was a good idea even though she hadn't suggested it.

Thanks for input. Hunter is always well informed and helpful.EP guy as well.IFN is not an option at the incredible cost, which is not an issue in many places if covered by insurance. As I have said I like HU and have no issues at all. Maybe I am obsessing a bit by the number? Thanks again.

For those interested in these things, they have one patent, 8541425, of the family which expires 2028-07-10. This can happen when the patent office causes delays.

And they filed a "continuation" application as recently as 2022, US11744832, expires 2026 just three years after it issued. This is unusual to file that late but it shows how much they care about Rux.

And there is already an infringement lawsuit filed by Incyte:

This should get interesting for those who care. The image is some of the US patents they filed for Rux, a very long list that reflects it being one of their best $ sources. And there are likely a similar number of non-US filings. So with Rux expiring 2028 give or take Incyte is motivated to invent something better, ie the new better targetedJak-1's of prior posts.

Your message is very interesting, thanks. I understand why they are trying to protect their IP. Please do update the group if you hear anything about generics manufacturers gearing up for a launch? The Indians must be watching this even though PV is not a major disease.
