Help! Stay sure are trying to withdraw my holiday insurance

Hi,

Hoping someone can help I have an annual multi trip holiday insurance with Staysure. I bought it a few years ago because it was recommended on this forum. I have ET and am age 62 my platelets are around 700 and my haematologist says it’s time to go on hydroxy. Staysure are now refusing to insure me. I go on holiday on Sunday. Does anyone have any advice? I am waiting for the underwriters to get back to me. Please help 🥹

Sue

Try All Clear same thing happened to me with advanti who was recommended from the Martin Lewis as good for medical conditions but once I confirmed diagnosis said would not cover me, someone I met at clinic recommended All clear not had a problem with insurance and PV although not on meds yet just asprin and venesection, I think when they dont understand the conditions properly just choose not to insure, hope you get it sorted

I have insurance with StaySure. I have PV 18 years and take Interferon. I got yearly cover at higher rate. Don't remember how much. I had cover from them many times over the years. Could the decision be queried. Their forms are IA controlled so maybe a simple thing caused rejection. I have had to reapply for husband by phone to get cover

I have spoken to a supervisor and they eventually spoke to the underwriters who have now agreed to continue cover until I come back my holiday providing I have a letter from my Dr that says I am fit to travel. I have to phone again when I get back to discuss continued cover. They seem to be objecting to the fact that hydra is a chemo drug even though I have explained that by taking it the risk of thrombotic events will be lowered. Thank you for taking the time to reply it’s much appreciated xx

Beware Staysure take months to sort out claims.

Hopefully you will never need to claim.

I was in the unfortunate position of needing medical treatment abroad. It took 3 months to be reimbursed £8000.

I am now looking for other companies to insure me and have a few quotes. We were previously quite happy with Staysure as they reimbursed us for Covid cancelled holidays though it did take a few months. At least they have now agreed to cover me temporarily so I have stopped panicking now ☺️. Thank you for replying xx

Hi Sue,

Have you tried contacting BIBA (British Insurance Brokers Association) they helped point me in the direction of my Annual Travel insurance.

I had problems getting a quote with StaySure last year. Telling them Hydroxy was a chemo drug seemed to complicate things for them and they said they had to contact the underwriters which took more than 5 days. In the meantime I bought travel insurance with AA instead! All online and straightforward. A pop up for ET, MF etc came up for me to click on when I needed to fill in my medical condition. I was quite surprised as MPNs are rare. No phone calls needed and very reasonable price. Good luck! Suzy
