I've just had phone hospital appointment Dr. Said bloods perfect!! My platelets are now 520 .

I thought they would want me to up hydroxicarbamide slightly to get to under 400 so pleased they agree with me( for once!!!!)

Still taking hydroxicarbamide 500 every other day

Ahhh! The vagaries of the medical profession! At 540, my oncologist thought I should up my HU dose a bit, although I started out at nearly 1200 a few months back. Actually, I had already increased my dose before I talked with him. Take care of yourself! If your Hb and all your WBC counts are in the normal range, you could cautiously increase HU slightly. But it is not worth it if RBC and WBC are not in the normal range: 520 is not too bad.

Thanks for your thoughts. I believe some doctors reckon 600 is ok if no symptoms . Others under 400.

For me ,less meds the better . As long as I have regular blood tests to check platelets not creeping up.

Hi, sound good. I think its best to find a Doc who is excellent and then just follow their directions. If they don't know better than us, who does?
