stuck with how to ask for alternative to Hydrea
Just ask. Your body, your treatment
Hi Pouns11, arrange an appointment with your haematologist and explain that you would like to discuss your treatment options and alternatives to Hydrea, and before you go to the appointment it might help to write it all down, list all the points/reasons why you would like to change your medication and take it with you so that you don't forget something, also, look at the other MPN medications that are available so that you have some knowledge of them before you discuss them with your haematologist. Good luck, Maz
I am in the same boat. I am seeking a second opinion from an mpn specialist because hydrea I don’t think is gonna be a good fit for me. I live my life in the sun and am very active with my kids - skin cancer and exposure to them through sweat etc isn’t an option…
It’s not just the higher risk of cancer. There are awful side effects for many. I had terrible neurological symptoms snd had to stop immediately.
MAZ is 100% on Target. Get really prepared and read up ahead of time on your options and write down also important points from the members on the forum who give fabulous advice!
All the best. Anag.
What is it about the hydrea you don’t like? Just curious. I was on it too for about 6 mos after first being diagnosed and was having the neuropathy issues. Being newly diagnosed I wasn’t sure if it was from the medication or the condition. I believe it was the medication. I did speak to my doctor and she suggested I try anagrelide. So far so good.
Simply have a frank discussion with your mpn hematologist. Don't be afraid to ask any question. Be well prepared when you go for your appointment. I always have a written agenda for appointments, it helps. Best to you.
