Are you having lots of water throughout day. ? Did you have a problem before HU ? I have 300ml with tablet as well
Natural things such as physilium , flax and magnesium are worth trying.
Ayurvedic Triphala powder
Don’t eat when stressed … stress can cause constipation …….
Thank you for your reply I didn't have constipation before HU I drink water but not as much as I should I will drink more maybe that's the problem.. I have porridge and ground flax seed for breakfast..
Maybe a tablespoon twice a day .. I find if I’m not relaxed it can effect bowels. Because starting HU can be so daunting maybe part of reason ?
Have a flask of ginger and warm water to hand and have regular sips
As well
Hello Daisy-May - I buy packs of soft dried figs + soft pitted dates - I have 1 fig + 3 dates after my main meal in the evening - that seems to work for me. Very best Anne-Marie x
HU made me extremely constipated. I used Miralax (Polyethylene Glycol) every day while I was on it. I also made it a point to have a piece of fruit every day. Fruit with higher levels of sorbitol (e.g. plums) work the best. When this was not enough, I would add a docusate tab (another osmotic) or sometimes a senna tab if i was really bad. I don't like the senna option as it forces peristalsis, but sometimes it is needed when you have chemically-induced constipation. There are some senna teas you can try for a gentler option.
I would suggest reviewing all of the meds you are taking. You can get a combination effect. When I was also taking Diltiazem, I was completely locked up. I had to take Miralax-docusate-senna every day. It was quite unpleasant. Do please check to see if your are taking something else that may be potentiating this adverse effect.
There are a couple of other things you can do that are based on why HU causes this adverse effect. As I understand it, HU can compromise your intestinal endothelium. It can also disrupt your intestinal microbiome. This means you need to support intestinal function the best you can. Taking a probiotic and foods with probiotics can help. So can including prebiotics in your diet. As others suggested, it is particularly important to stay well hydrated. Keeping up the fiber and other foods that support gut health is also helpful.
Hope you find relief soon.
Prunes!!!! I live in S W France where they grow plums for prune produce exported all over the world. 12 yrs of P V ,Hydrea & now Rux they seem to work better than anything. Good Luck ..it's either one way or the other for us.😢
additional fermented foods really helped with this. I added a small teaspoon of sauerkraut to every meal for a week or two.
Thank you for your reply I never thought of sauerkraut added to a meal I will give that a try 😉
Vitamin C works wonders too. You take enough, over the day, to have a bowel movt. The amount for each person is different, as we all have a different bowel tolerance level. For example I can happily take 4to5 times the amount my husband can before I need to go. As a water soluble vitamin it’s very safe to take.
I have found having a spoonful or two of mixed seeds on my cereal or yoghurt really solved that problem for me, I take a mix of sesame, chia, flax, sunflower and pumpkin and they taste good too.
Take warm water 2 big glasses ever morning and wait at least half hour before breakfast
Drink plenty of water, try Miralax. Safe and works well for me. I try to drink 5 quarts(6 liters) a day of water
Thank you for your reply trying to drink more water find it hard though probably not been drinking enough.. 👍
I'm not on HU but have tortuous intestines so have been drinking a pack of metamucil every night.........does the trick! Kerry
Plenty of water, a daily walk, an assortment of fruit and vegetables daily, half a teaspoon of golden linseed on my breakfast porridge, and a glass of homemade kefir daily. No highly processed food.
