Sorry you will have to copy and paste link as it won't open from here.

Hi there. I have just read the very sad article. My own thoughts are that anyone can have a thrombosis as has been proven so many times, not just people with MPN’s. They did specifically make a link into her age being given the Astra zeneca. I personally don’t think we should be unduly concerned, if we worried about every little thing we came across in the press we would hardly leave the house and land up being a bundle of nerves! But that is just my opinion. Good luck. Janice
When you think of that article replace thought with all the positive s. So many thousands saved by the vaccines.
More than get ill or die from them.
Every choice we make has risk...
This includes what we emphasise in our mind .
Thoughts are the only thing we can control arnt they ..
What a dreadful tragedy for this young woman and her family. She died in February 2021 and the recent news reports are of the inquest. As I understand it, Astra Zeneca is no longer being routinely used on younger people, because of the possible link with clots.
Thankyou guys for this information has am getting my fourth jab this weekend & shall get my fifth 3 months later just feel sad for the young girl Xx
The adenovirus vaxes (AZ, J&J) are associated with increased risk of adverse thrombotic events, and US CDC is advising to prefer the other options.
In this link it is discussed, it is most risk for women 30-49:

She was not in the max risk group but as a young women, she clearly was at risk.
The US CDC is advising a preference for the mRNA vaxes (Pfizer/Moderna) However there is some positive news for J&J discussed here, it seems to be longer lasting.

As an older male, I would personally be ok taking JJ (AZ is not in the US), and might even seek it. But for a younger woman, it seems not advisable.
For men, the mRNA vaxes have a slight increased risk of heart issues, but these generally are less serious than the (still rare) thrombotic events seen with AZ, JJ.
There is another vax in UK, Novavax, that uses a more traditional tech than these others, and was quite good in trials. You could discuss with your Dr.
Haven't read the article, but anyone could have a blood clot at any time. I myself had an unprovoked cvst in 2014 - no reason at all.We are all human beings and vulnerable to being unwell for sometimes no obvious reason. My mum died aged 48.
Sad, but true.
Make the most of the day-tomorrow is not a given. 🙏
It's a terrible story for the poor girl and her family. My wife and myself both had AZ for the first and second vaccinations, we both had clots/thrombosis in our legs within two weeks on each occasion. A man in our village had a stroke within a few hours of his AZ Vax. And subsequently died after a few weeks. Life really is a lottery.
If you read the report the girl had a low platelet count which would contribute to clot formation-very sad in someone so young..Take care..
My view is that this young woman is hardly alone. There are so many adverse reactions to the covid jab that personally I won't go anywhere near it. By the way, one of the most common adverse events is blood clots. I know others will disagree, but it's hard to believe anyone with an MPN would take the jab, any jab from any company. There are perfectly good and safe early interventions (which I have in my medicine cabinet) should my husband or I show any symptoms of covid. So I'm not worried at all. Just wish others would do their homework on this issue.
Must add a huge extra level of stress going through MPN treatment if you don't trust the medical experts...
I used to be pretty skeptical of mainstream medicine and the pharmaceutical industry, and the huge profit motive of both. Then I got PMF. Quickly realized I couldn't research every recommendation and drug, couldn't second guess everything, and essentially put my life in their hands. I researched BMT carefully in deciding whether to pull the trigger, but not everything else. I really don't want to know about Jakafi, Busulfan, Cytoxan, Tacrolimus etc.
And so far, so good, 4½ months after transplant! And I've even survived 6 Covid vaccine shots (AZ and Pfizer), with 2 more scheduled in the next 4 months
Agree on medical experts. Whether it's BMT, medicines, vaxes, we don't need to live through prolonged plagues and pestilence anymore thanks to the hard efforts of evidence based experts.

I'm maybe overly biased toward science and tech, while I also agree there is a middle ground. Further, as I've posted, many reports we read here have holes. It's up to us to make rational choices with gray information.
One choice that is undeniably rational is to wish for biological immunity to Covid. Esp for the elder of us on the Voice it would be insane not to value such immunity. This can be via infection or vax. I suggest vax, having been thru option 1 including long covid etc and nearly losing my loved one at the very start of things. And if you have been infected, adding the vax gives "hybrid" immunity, the top kind.
See the plots below from worldometers.info/
These show the benefit of acquired immunity. In UK deaths are up but not severely during the recent Omicron wave. In HK deaths during Omicron went straight up. HK is suffering as other countries did before vaxes came out (see winter '21 in UK here for that)
The difference is UK has acquired immunity thru infection, and also high vax rates, crucially among the elderly. We've seen on the Voice the aggressive UK vax program. But HK is different with low elderly vax rates, (age 80+ only is ~42%) and near zero immunity via infection. Further most vaxes are Corona Vac which is considered less effective esp against Omicron. Most of the deaths in HK are these old, unvaxed residents.

While vaxes are a really good idea, which one does matter. The attenuated virus vaxes from China have questions on efficacy. And as discussed in this thread, the AZ vax has association with thrombosis, esp among non-elderly women. Similar with J&J. So this group should discuss with qualified experts, and consider other options, such as the mRNA and in some countries incl UK, the more conventional offering from Novavax.
Acquired immunity will not "prevent" all infection. Instead, as part of the familiar gray area we MPNers know, it much raises the odds of not being a member of that vertical line we see here in HK.
When it comes to medical treatment, nothing is guaranteed – as those on this forum well know. It's all about improving the odds.
Sorry about this post my parnter has posted this has he was worried about me getting vaccination after he read the post , I've had my fourth vaccination just a numb harm and I will be going for my fifth in 3 months time too Xx
