I came across this study.
Using a type of ultrasound, "point shear wave elastography" (pSWE) spleen stiffness can be measured. This is distinct from the more familiar spleen size.

<<In our study, through multivariate analysis, SS (spleen stiffness) significantly correlated with BMF. (fibrosis) Therefore, we confirmed that SS, evaluated by pSWE, may serve as a surrogate marker of BMF. We can also speculate that the assessment of SS may drastically reduce the need for multiple invasive bone marrow biopsies>>
Note the word "speculate". But this suggest having a baseline value for SS could be useful. I recently had an ultrasound, but this procedure was not part of it. I will ask my Dr about it.
