High Altitude

Hi all,

This is a rather random query.

I have PV,taking 45 mg Peg weekly, and having monthly venesections at the moment, which I hope will decrease soon, once the Peg starts taking effect.

Has anyone out there with similar diagnosis and symptoms, ventured on a holiday doing gentle (skiing)activity at high altitude(1400-1700M)?

I appreciate, physiologically, this may increase RBC ,but my haematologist ,albeit,a few years ago mentioned this would be ok .

However, that was ‘pre Peg.’ I am experiencing some flu like symptoms,nausea/dizziness etc.,but hopefully these will subside soon.

Thankyou very much for any information on anyone else’s actual experience of an ‘altitude’ vacation ,

All the very best to everyone ,

Bobbie

Sounds like you already know that hypoxia induces increased erythropoiesis. I think what the doc was telling you is that 1400-1700M is not high enough for this to be an issue. That would presume that you are in reasonable good shape and do not have any breathing issues like COPD.

I would say go enjoy the skiing. I asked my MPN Specialist about low-depth scuba diving since some way we should not do this with ET/PV. He said it would be fine to do it. I am looking forward to a post-COVID cruise where I can learn to dive. It is one of the items on my bucket list. Then it is on to sky-diving.

Hi Hunter,You are a real inspiration, and your cruise sounds wonderful.

Thankyou for the reply.I may actually be skiing at around 3000m .(I made a mistake.)

I will still consider going.

All the very best to you,

Thankyou,

Bobbie
