Hi Jim yes this happend to me also apparently many users of Hydroxy struggle with this issue of loud or increased tinnitus. It' was very difficult and a little scary for me being diagnosed with Thrombocythemia and begining Hydroxy and there have been quite a few challenging symptoms to deal with. Having said this the increase in sound level of my tinnitus was mind-blowing as the sound effects were constantly changing. My consultant was aware of it and this helped,l invested in a sound machine brillent and although at the moment it has improved significantly, l know it will reappear at times when l feel stressed or unwell then it is necessary for me to resort to the machine. Also minfullness meditation has helped and deep breathing very calming for the vagus nerves. Good luck

Thanks. I use white noise and have had a complete hearing exam. It's so loud that I am wearing my hearing aids to bed for extra white noise. It's also greatly effecting my sleep.

So sorry its the pits Jim99 lm also struggling right now sounds as if lm sitting inside the inside of the kind of dryers used in the laundrymat. I know lm anxious right now with

Omicron having such a lousy immune system. Having said that lm looking after myself very well and feeling grateful lve got another year under my belt on this amazing planet I also intend to have a better holiday this year, and aim to stay out of the emergency department Take care Jim don't forget to keep your consultant up to date they might think of reducing the Hydroxy,be proactive and feel better.

Hi Jim 1949I've read that tinnitus can be a symptom of ET. I've been on Hydroxycarbamide for about 2 years, but only started to notice the tinnitus about 6 months ago. I was diagnosed with ET in 2018. I wonder if asking your Dr/Consultant might give you more information.

Hi Jim, Tinnitus is a symptom of ET/ PV but also side effect of HU or interferon. A year and half ago my tinnitus became so bad ( due to my rising bloodcounts)I had to start cyto reduction . It was a difficult situation since both interferon as HU have tinnitus as side effect but for several reasons I chose interferon. It has many side effects in my case but so far my tinnitus got better ( due to lowering of platelets and red and white blood cells) so in my case the tinnitus was not aggravated by pegasys. I would consult your mpn specialist as soon as possible and discuss other medication options for you ( interferon or ruxolitnib maybe) Of all the symptoms I have, tinnitus is the most horrible one and it sounds like yours is quite severe. kind regards, Gabrielle
