Few weeks ago I’ve restarted hydroxycarbamide to see if I could cope better this time. Had some reservations re anagrelide. Anyway, about the same time I started atorvastatin. Then the peripheral neuropathy came with a bang! Of course I automatically assumed hydroxy was the culprit until I saw a post about atorvastatin and peripheral neuropathy. Maybe I was wrong … Has anyone experienced PN with statin?

Wrong culprit?
Hi, I was really interested to read your post. I have an appointment to see a neurologist in a couple of weeks as I have tingling, burning in my legs, feet and hands mainly. I'm not exactly sure when I started taking atorvastatin but it was roughly around the time when the symptoms became a problem. I wonder if you're right. My GP didnt mention any link but recently my haematologist did say she had heard of it. I'm paying for a private consultation as I have been on the NHS list for a while and still no appointment.
Hello Cokopops - I’m also very aware of ‘issues’ taking statins - after much ‘trial and error’ I managed to pin down my leg pains to 1 particular brand and fortunately have had no major issues since (don’t like having to take them but know I absolutely must for my ‘evil bad’ type of cholesterol)! - please post what you find out about alternatives (I don’t want to ‘rock the boat’ at this time, but would be good to hear of any alternative)
Very best Anne-Marie x
Hi, I was interested to read your experience of Atorvastatin as I was put on it a year ago after having small blood clot in little toe. Recently when out walking I am experiencing a pain beginning in my right ankle and spreading up my leg, front and calf. This happens after a few minutes of setting off. It wears off after about 10 minutes and is relieved by stopping for short time. Could this be peripheral neuropathy or maybe angiitis. . Fran
Hi Fran. I presume the pain from peripheral neuropathy is different for every one. I hadn’t heard of it till just a few weeks ago.. My pain is sort of like an electric shock and then a sharp stabbing pain that makes me shout out loud! Then a dull pain that goes on and on any time of the day or night. Spoke with the doc this morning and he suggested I stop the statin for a couple of weeks and see how I get on. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and post how I am getting on. Thanks for replying. Mind how you go.
