Just had my 3rd Covid vaccination. Do I still receive a booster after six months? I’m assuming so, otherwise this one WOULD be the booster?

I had mine this afternoon at a vaccination centre. After a getting nowhere with the receptionist who was insisting they are all boosters, I gave up. However the next person I saw actually understood what I was trying to say, and agreed with me, saying she would put a note on my file that this is the 3rd primary dose and I should be called for a booster in six months. It’s very hard work to get someone to actually listen to what you are saying! I feel sorry for the patients who aren’t able to make themselves heard.

Hi, can I ask how you booked it at a vaccination centre please? I am getting absolutely nowhere at my GP surgery. First they said that the 3rd dose and booster are one and the same thing. Then they said 3rd doses are being done at the local hospital haematology department but I am not under the local hospital. My own hospital think it’s the responsibility of my GP so I am going round in circles. Thanks, Karen x

Get in contact with the local hospital that is offering the 3rd vaccine. If they are resistant talk to your GP or own CNS and see if they can mediate?

Thank you. I have asked my GP if they can ask the local hospital to do it but I haven’t had a response yet. I will keep chasing

Have you shown them the letters from Blood Cancer and MPN that Maz has put up? They make it perfectly clear about the third vaccine and explain all to GPs.

Yes I have but it made no difference 😡

HOW unfair can the system be? Surely all GPs are sent the same information to act on? Very worrying.

Your Consultant/Specialist nurse should know if you should have it and help you to get it, probably through the hospital programme if there is one.

Hi Karen,I received a text from NHSvaccine. Stating I’m a priority to receive booster. I got nowhere with my GP although two of my neighbours in their 80’s went to the GP for theirs yesterday. I think I am in the normal age queue at my GP and wouldn’t get it until they get to over 70’s and vulnerable as with the first one! It’s all very frustrating. 💐

It is so frustrating! I shall keep nagging and hopefully wear them down eventually 😃. So pleased you have had yours x

Keep trying because I was told I would get a booster in 6 months which you may miss out on.

I wasn’t classed as high risk when the vaccines were first administered but a letter from my hospital has now corrected that. However Its delayed my next jab as I’ve been told I can’t have the next jab until 6 months after last one.

You can’t get the booster until 6 m the after the second vaccine, but the third primary dose can be done after 8 weeks.. this is all strange anyway as it’s is the same dose whether a booster or third primary. It is all a total shambles!

This is why I’ve decided to travel to Guy’s for that third dose. I know I will have the right one.

Only if it was recorded as a third primary vaccine. Which seems highly unlikely in the current screw up. (Unless you had it at Guy’s and made it clear it was a third primary.) Suggest you follow through with your GP to ensure when systems are finally up and running that it is recorded as a third primary. Am assuming you did not get Moderna???

I got my third primary dose two weeks ago and the letter I got said that a further booster may be required but that the JCV had still to advise on that.

Expectation is that us CEV folk will require another dose in six months
