Decrease in blood counts after vaccination.

Hi everyone. A few months ago I posted here to ask if anyone's blood counts had dropped after the Pfizer vaccination. Mine dropped dramatically and have still not increased. Have the people who stated that their counts had also decreased noticed any increase since. Thank you and good wishes to all.

Hi Anita, yes mine have dropped from about 580 to 480 last count, don't know if they will stay this low or not. I will no doubt be encouraged to have a booster vaccination by haematology in September time if it is out.

Hi Anita, I do find this an interesting phenomenon, as others ( not all) have also noticed a decrease in platelets.Just out of interest, how much did you numbers drop by, and how soon after did you have your blood test?

Also, did you by chance have a D-dimer test? Are you on regular aspirin?

I think it would be very interesting to work out what is really going on here.

Hope you felt ok after the Pfizer jab and didn’t have any side effects.

Hi AnitaI had blood tested a few days after my second Astra Zenica jab. I received a call from Haematology a few days later asking me to go straight to clinic for a venesection as my blood was thick. This brought bloods down to within range.

Two days after I had the AstraZeneca jab I had my three month routine blood tests, my platelets were ok but my WBC had gone from 4.9 to 2.3, I was retested a week later and they had gone back up to my normal range. I’m sure as with most things us MPN’ers have it will be slightly different for each individual.

What’s the time frame between your tests? What has your consultant said?

It happened to me also, I had the moderna shots but then my numbers went back up the following month . They were just lower the first month for me😕

Hi, all of my blood counts went up, RBC, WBC, Platelets, Hct, Hgb, all went up significantly when I had blood tests done about a month after second dose of Pfizer vaccine. That is when my diagnosis was changed from ET to PV. I had not had a blood test for 6 months so I don't know if it was the vaccine or just the natural progression of the disease. I have since been started on HU and will likely have a phlebotomy when I see my hematologist next week. Good luck to you.

Yes, my platelet count dropped after the first Pfizer shot, but the effect only lasted a short while.
