I sleep under a sheet and have a thin duvet which is hardly ever over my feet as that helps. BUT I have what feels like a furnace around my heart/stomach area which wakes me up. Then arms and shoulders get cold when I stick them out / throw the duvet off- but the furnace often carries on regardless !
I do not eat late, usually a fairly light dinner 4-5 hours before bed and am just over 5ft tall and 56kg / 123 lb - so could do with losing a bit of weight ( but given older age, in my 60s, this seems difficult) I have ET CALR but do not know if it has made this worse........
I have always had some heat control problems but this is getting ridiculous !
HELP !

I overheat too, central body area... I’m not overweight, same as you don’t eat late, have natural materials for bedding..... has made no difference for me sadly . I also get the chills quickly when I remove a layer, but immediately overheat if I put it back on.
The only thing that’s helped is having a light layer and then a fan blowing over my body... no idea why, but it’s helped me.
Have been a ‘warm ‘ bodied person for a long time too, but now can have freezing feet and furnace trunk area at the same time.
I have read that MPNs can cause temperature control issues, a cytokines thing I believe- no useful link as I’m rubbish at that kind of thing, but hopefully someone more capable has one for you x
Last night we did go down to a woolen blanket over the sheet and no duvet at all. Even had to throw my very light dressing gown over me a couple of times - but slept for nearly 9 hours! - what with catching up and a bad cold coming on !
My husband was OK too - I was frightened of him being cold!
I'm glad that worked for you! I have to sleep with just a sheet if on my side and a light blanket if on my back. I've always had trouble regulating my temperature when using a duvet. Now if I could just sleep past 4 a.m...I hope you continue to have restful sleep!
I overheat as well, living on my own, duvet, light blanket, but wake up in the morning, blanket, pjams, pillow and myself, WET! I have diabetes 2, am overweight, but even a dietician would applaud my diet? Now aged 64! Usually have to change bedclothes, sometimes nightly! [well worked routine!🥴]Why? I have just had a weekly lab. rat hospital inspection for my various medical conditions, the heat problems have been on as long as I can remember, even in hospital beds, it does get ridiculous and sometimes rather embarrassing, hope you find some sort of cure for your complaint!
I do not normally sweat - it is just this furnace in my midriff which wakes me up and is difficult to cool down without making the rest of me uncomfortable.
Try just a top sheet and blanket ? Sounds as if you really are "too hot" all over !
Annoying? tried with, without? it could be my diabetes 2 giving me a warning? [too much of...?] it is usually the top part of my body, chest and head, which heat up when I wake up, around my sternum and under arms, with my hair wet with sweat!😤🥴
Night sweats.... proper nightmare for me too, and definitely MPN symptom.Used to have just the inner furnace thing, but have progressed to waking drenched, whole body sweats, having to change clothes bedding.... I shift from one side to the other, have towels to hand, it’s causing me sleep deprivation ☹️
Sleep under cotton sheets, thin blankets to layer to not feel cold, duvet definitely not good for me, but in the end I still only manage a couple of hours max before I wake damp, wet or drenched
This happened to me a couple of years ago, triggered off by good weather, I assumed it was my diet, it eventually 'stopped' when weather cooled, I never fully diagnosed it? I have just come out of hospital, very hot spell, last day there it started again, did not mention it to medical staff, had enough to worry about? Exactly as you mention, tried to ignore it, embarrassing? Large fan came in handy! Turning around in bed 360% as top of bed wet, excessive change of bedclothes, plenty of towels! Diagnosed diabetes 2 March last year, on metformin since then, am a bit overweight, aged 64, but drastic diet since then, then this starts again, MUST be something else? My problem being diagnosed as "one off!" so many assorted medical conditions so hard to diagnose which one really causes this? Sleep well!
Thanks for the sleep well message! Had a night without the sweats!!! First one in months..,.I’ve had them through winter, actual temperature seems to make no difference. Used to, when they started 10 years ago, seem to be more around hormonal times to me, periods and ovulation, but am not sure. They have gradually increased in frequency till few months ago when it became almost every night. So struggling, off work because of having had a hip replacement, and have cut down on coffee.., feels like that’s the only thing that’s kept me functioning now though, am so tired all the time.
I’ve had the full blood works and am fine, platelets 395, everything within normal ranges including vitamins etc, no thyroid issues, no diabetes…
Though I have either got reflux or coeliac disease they think, being investigated. But my stomach issues are recent so I don’t think related.
Wish there was a solution, something that helped lessen it. I get full body sweats, have a picture of my bed where it shows a wet outline of my whole body on the sheet, legs and arms n all, with an extra sideways wetness around my trunk area. Going to show my doctor, as they seem to minimise my issue, as they think it’s just menopausal hot flushing. I find hot flushes a breeze to cope with in comparison, and can tell them apart.
Let’s hope someone had a super trick up their sleeve to share with us 🙃
I enjoy my own company too much, it is always the same I'll sleep well [actually that used to be a rarity, side effects of medication I took for epilepsy, three years for that to wear off🥴] now sleep ok, but wake up, a pool of sweat around my trunk region, maybe change pyjamas [usually top half], or pillow cover, go to bathroom and dry hair and myself, back to bed try and find dryer part of bed, and go to sleep🙃wake up later and 'clean up'😗probably do that again tonight🙄Stay cool!
