I cannot believe what just happened to my husband

I am horrified by what has just happened to my husband.

He had Bungle on the green for her morning business when Bungle saw the warden and the cleaner from the sheltered housing scheme we live in, smoking their vaps outside the scheme.

Bungle was on an extension lead so he let her go for a fuss. Stef stayed well back and was wearing a mask. He started talking to them and mentioned the Lorraine show who had a guest who had blood cancer and had no antibodies. Stef told them I had had an antibody test and it showed I had no antibodies either.

The cleaner said “Well it will be over next month, you won’t have to wear a mask”. Stef told her he wouldn’t be going anywhere without his mask as he wouldn’t put me at risk.

Well, the cleaner went off it. Spewing crap about the government is lying, it’s all a conspiracy, she knew medical people so she knew the truth, blah, blah, blah. Stef told her ignore what the government is saying, look on the SAGE site. He said, it’s a lottery still. He said you stand in a line with and you are told to pull a ball out of a bag, if you pick a white ball your okay but if you pick a black ball you have Covid.

The next thing she started ranting at him, saying “Who do you think you are with that bloody dog”. It’s you who’s spreading Covid standing on the corner talking to people”. He was taken back because he never stands talking, he’s to afraid of Covid. She started belittling him and ranting until she pulled her arm back and was going to punch Stef in the face. The warden was holding her back telling her to stop. Stef put his arm out and said keep away from me, you don’t have a mask. He turned away but not before telling the warden to sort it out.

I am horrified that a member of staff from the sheltered housing scheme we live in, tried to physically harm my husband because she said Covid was a conspiracy. I immediately called the head manager of the district who is launching an inquiry into a) attempted assault and b) the racist remark.

We are both so shaken up about it.

I'm so sorry, he must have been very shaken. It sounds like this woman has some mental health issues so hopefully she will get help.

Sounds awful.... unfortunately there are so many uneducated people that believe this it’s scary!

Can I ask what the racist remark was?

I really don’t want to repeat the words she said but I will say she blamed a certain race for spreading Covid. I wouldn’t let her words past my lips but it was horrible.

Hi Jill , , a bad experience, , you just never know quite who you're passing the time of day with , , it happened to me only without the physical threat and no abuse but a lecture about Covid being a hoax and the Govt killing folk off to save on pensions. It beggars belief and left me gobsmacked and reeling a bit. I said well that's not how I see it and we will agree to disagree I just hope it doesn't take one of your loved ones and you can't even be there to say goodbye. I'm afraid these people aren't just a tiny minority as thousands turn out for the rallies or demonstrations. I think you are right to follow it up because who knows who might be next to cop for it , one of their charges.

This is dreadful Jill! How terribly upsetting for both you and your husband! Glad you’ve reported it and hope justice is done. That person shouldn’t be working anywhere near sheltered accommodation with views like that when there are vulnerable people in the housing scheme. We’re all worried enough about not being properly covered by the vaccines. Take care and try to put the incident behind you. xx Fran

Awful story. There are a lot of thick people around. Makes you wonder, living in a country where we have compulsory education to mid teens.It took a lot of self control not to approach/talk to a group of people on the train (no masks) with T Shirts saying “there’s no pandemic” last week.

Wouldn’t get away with that sort of behaviour in places like China!

Hope you’re ok & the culprit gets reprimanded.

Boy this is unbelievable. I thought it was only here in the US where we have so many people who believe Covid is a hoax, masks don’t work, etc. I’m sorry your husband experienced this and am glad it’s being reported. I think that is a case for the police. It needs to be reported. If only for statics. The person in question deserves to be fired. I don’t think it will happen unless the police are involved. That person is a bully and cannot work in a shelter home environment. His/ her attitude is one of ‘don’t you dare question my thoughts or actions or I will hurt you’Do follow it through for the sake of others and let us know the outcome.

So sorry you have had to deal with this. My son told me about a conversation at a school gate where somebody was going on about COVID being a world wide conspiracy and vaccines were in fact tracking devices to spy on populations! Even a nurse that I came into contact with believed that COVID was spread by 5G masts!!! What more can I say😲

I wanted to call the police straight away to report her for attempted assault and racist hatred but husband said no. He actually was the better person and said he didn’t even want her fired (believe me we argued over this). He said he wanted an apology and to sit down and talk about it.

We had to do a statement for her manager who called last night to see how Stef was and to tell us she was arriving first thing to get a statement off the scheme manager and the cleaner then it was going straight to HR. I hope she’s dismissed because if the manager hadn’t been there she would have been punched in the face.
