Vaccine protection for blood cancer patients is lower than people who are healthy this is a Goverment response to what are they doing for us to protect us

I live in the US and had the Moderna vaccine. My internist tested me to find out the level of the spike protein antibodies produced by the vaccine and the test showed that I had the highest level of protection. I was greatly relieved as I had read that blood cancer cancer patients might not be getting a robust response to the vaccine. I have ET and am JAK positive low dose aspirin therapy.

Hello PhilReade, I had a self test for antibodies last Tuesday and it showed negative. I had a mild attack of the virus in mid September 2020 and my first Pfizer vaccine 23rd January. I went for my second yesterday, 17th April.

I have MF since 2010 but started my 'blood adventure' with PVR in 1983

It was provided by BioBank which I have been associated for many years. On reading their notes it stated that if you are over 70 (which I am) a negative test may not be 100% accurate. We can always live in hope and try to be positive and enjoy our life when we can.

Best wishes from Michael

Hi Michael

Sorry to hear your blood adventure dating back so far you sound a positive person and hope your coping ok

Mine started in 2013 I’ve been told I have PV & ET 50/50 I’m on hydroxycarbamide 1500 mg and had a splenectomy in 2014

I’ve had the Astra Zeneca vaccine the second was on April 13 th so I’ve purchased a test from Test for all as I’m concerned of the low protection it’s supposed to provide for blood patients

I’ll let you know how I go on when I test myself on the 4 th of May

I’m shocked our Haematolygist can’t provide these tests for us

Keep positive and All the best

Phil

I meant to add that I was on hydroxy for most of the time but put on Ruxolitinib in Dec 2013. Btw are you any relation to Tony and Margaret Reade, who were from Warminster, England

Loved your final sentence Michael. I’m fast approaching 78 and was diagnosed ET in 1998 and later MDS was added. Not much info around back then. Have now had both AZ vaccines with no side effects and have got my box of lateral flow tests on hand for when I start venturing out after shielding. The availability of these free tests is increasing my confidence to start mixing outside my bubble ! Let’s keep the positive vibe going.
