After taking 135mcg of PEG Interferon since January 2020 (just over a year) my Haematocrit level is still high at 48 (all other counts are now OK - Platelets down from over 1000 to 300)
My consultant wants to increase dosage to 180mcg for next two months
Is anyone else taking this sort of dose .... I do tolerate it well, but a little concerned that it does not appear to be working for me

My understanding is that such high doses are only used for hepatitis. And that PEG may not fully control your Hct - you'll need to still have some venesections. So if that's the reason for the increase in dose, and your other counts are going well, I personally would say no (and get a venesection so your Hct is below 45). It's good news about your platelets (which PEG mostly affects). Higher PEG doses could result in your platelets getting too low. After a year on 135mcg I'd be considering lowering the dose. I suggest you read the work of J.J. Kiladjian from Paris who has done a lot of work on PEG. (I'm on 45 ug every 3 weeks.) I hope that gives some more information for you to consider. Best wishes.
Hi, I'm on 180mcg every week with a top up of 90mcg every other week - has worked very well after platelets went high during change from previous interferon over to peg version. I'm happy with the lower platelets and suits me injecting (not for everyone - I know!) All other levels are also within range and kidney/liver function good too. I'm ET JAK2, incase that helps with your thinking around using this drug - the results on my platelets are good and improving each three months - so I may end up with a reduction, if levels stay good.Good luck with your decision making about medication.
