I have a lot of pain in my joints and limbs and hope weight loss will help this
Has anyone used the Keto capsules for weight los... - MPN Voice
Has anyone used the Keto capsules for weight loss. I’m ET JAK2 positive and wondered if anyone else has tried this.
hi Bield, you must check with your haematologist or nurse specialist before taking any diet supplements as they may interact with your MPN medication. It might also be worth asking at your GP surgery for diet and weight loss information, the practice nurses should be able to help you with advice and support. Best wishes, Maz
Weight loss will help with that. I lost 50 pounds and it certainly helped. I did it with an app on my phone (LoseIt).
The other thing that really helped is Curcumin. It works better than any NSAID I ever took. Better than Lyrica too. Curcumin does potentiate aspirin to some degree, so as Mazcd suggests, always check with your care team about any supplement. NOTE: I work with an Integrative Medicine Doc regarding supplement-med interactions as many docs simply don't know how they interact.
If you are having knee pain, you might thinks about hyaluronic acid injections into your knees. I just had the second of s series of three injections of Orthovisc. It is already making a significant difference.
All the best with the achy joints.
Thank you for your advice, I take turmeric tablets and haven’t found any improvement. I also have a vitamin d deficiency and have been given 1600ui daily to help with thinning bones. I’ve been offered alendronic acid for this but don’t think I will go ahead with it. Seems a bit risky with the other meds I have. I don’t think I have a specialist nurse and last time I asked my consultant about hair and nail supplements and he snapped at me that I was going to blame the medication when I only wanted to know if it was ok to use it so I tend not to ask questions anymore.
I have been following the keto lifestyle for the past year. Keto "supplements" are not really recommended. It's the change in your diet that is important. Without actually going fully keto, cutting back on carbs (sugar, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes) would be a good start to help reduce inflammation.
Turmeric is not readily bioavailable, so the formulation makes a big difference. I use one with the CurcuWin formulation. There are others that also work, often including piperine (black pepper extract). I have found it to really help with the inflammation/osteoarthritis.
Some doctors are not familiar with supplement-medication interactions. That is why I consult with an integrative medicine doc. Don't really know why your consultant would snap at you like that. Perhaps concerned about how common complaints about the side effects of some meds (e.g. hydroxyurea can cause arthralgia and myalgia). No reason to be rude to you though. Perhaps you could talk to a more amenable and knowledgeable doc about the supplements you want to consider.
All the best. Hope you find relief soon.
Hi there, could you share with me which Integrative Medicine doctor are you seeing?
Wishing ou well
I live in the USA. I see a doc named Martha Calihan in Leesburg, Virginia. Here is a link to the Institute for Functional Medicine where you can find a provider near you (in multiple countries).
Note, while Integrative and Functional Medicine are not identical, many docs who do one do both, There is a lot of overlap between the two approaches.

"While functional medicine focuses on creating individualized therapies tailored to treat underlying causes of illness, integrative medicine seeks to understand the individual as a whole and applies many forms of therapy to improve wellness."
What are keto capsules? I’ve been keto for 8years and there are heaps of these pseudo keto supplements out there that do nothing for you. The essence of keto is to just eat real food - good heathy protein, good fats and heaps of good above ground veggies - anything else is unnecessary
