Thrombocytosis

Hi there I am a 43 year old woman. I have had elevated platelets for 5 months now.. consistently 590 discovered on routine blood test. I have normal other blood work. So far testing done is CPR normal, ANA positve but he said a 1? So wasn't conclusive of auto immune. JAK test was normal. Waiting on Mpl mutation test. I do have adenomyosis and endometriosis. Dont want to take the tablets to help as they can cause clotting.

My questions are

1. Can Endometriosis or Adenomyosis cause thrombocytosis?

2. Has anyone with a myeloproliferative neoplasm had some of the symptoms I have been getting :

-Slight Webb looking rash on belly

-Dizzy, spacey and fatigue usually before rash. Some mood changes.

-Pain in arms and armpit

3. Does E.T diagnosis always come from a positive gene mutation test?

Im a bit stressed about it all, and I want to get off the merrygo round of tests and worry. I have alot of uncertainty in my job due to covid so I'm trying to not increase my stress levels.

Thanks in advance and good luck to you all x

hello Bbthy, completely understand that you are stressed about this, endometriosis is a very painful condition. It is good that your raised platelets are being investigated, you can read more about the causes of MPNs and the roles of the gene mutations on our website

I hope you get some answers soon. Best wishes, Maz

It can be hard to sort out primary from secondary thombocytosis. The short version is that anything that can cause inflammation, bleeding, infection can cause reactive thrombocytosis. Iron deficiency can also cause thombocytosis. Essential Thrombocytosis is basically a diagnosis of exclusion. The doc should have also run a test for CALR in addition to JAK2 and MPL. Some of the symptoms you are experiencing could be related to a MPN or could have another cause. It is really hard to sort out. The only thing to add to what Mazcd already pointed you to is that you may need to see a MPN Specialist rather than a regular hematologist, particularly if you do not get a clear diagnosis soon. Here is a list just in case you have not already seem this mpnforum.com/list-hem./ ..

All the best to you.
