Memory Foam Mattress is unbearably hot.

What kind of mattress do you have? It is has been extremely hot here the past few days and as a result I am getting the dreaded itchy feeling up and down my legs more than ever! It is complete hell. It used to happen only after a long sleep or shower but now it is out of control. I can not lay on my memory foam bed for more than 20 minutes and my back heats up. I'll have to get up and let it cool and try again later. So does anyone have a spring mattress or other kind of mattress that actually stays cool??? Amazon doesn't even sell spring, they only have hybrids.

I remember one hot summer long ago when I slept on a water bed that did not have a heater. I slept in long underwear because it was so chilly. i know my reply is only semi-serious but I am recovering from anesthesia from an endoscopy. There must be a way to cool off the bed. I think I have some of the same problems and it helps to drink lots of water.

I have an air mattress in the closet. I am thinking about it but I have an adjustable bed.

I had a pillow top mattress that felt like I was sleeping on top of a volcano so definitely don't get one of those. I just bought one of the memory foam mattresses that have gel infused into them to help keep it cool. It's much better for me. Maybe you can try one of those gel infused mattress toppers on Amazon? They cost like $100.

I guess I will try the gel infused. I always hesitate cause I read the one star reviews of people saying it's still hot,. Etc. If it works for you though it's enough for me.

The problem is it is hard to fine a mattress that keeps cool. At least with the topper if it doesn't work out you are only out $100 instead of $1000 for a new mattress. The gel infused mattress is better than my last mattress but it isn't perfect. It does get hot for me sometimes. (But nothing like the hell of a pillow top mattress.) I've even tried those cooling gel pads for dogs, lol...those things feel good for about 4 minutes and then they turn to fire. There are also special bed fans that blow air directly under your blanket. I thought about getting one of those but they are like $300. I'm interested to hear what other people recommended.

I have a foam mattress and it is warm, but then I feel as if I'm on fire most nights, even though my skin feels cool to the touch. I generally sleep out of the duvet or some part of me summer and winter. My wife says it's like sleeping next to 6 foot radiator. Fortunately I don't have the itch.

I wonder if something like this would help? It may be something to look into.

If that actually works that is amazing

I have yet to find a mattress or pillow that stays cool and keeps me cool during sleep - the way I get around it is to fill a 'hot water bottle' with water and freeze it. I put my giant 'ice cube' in my bed about 30 minutes before I retire for the night (wrapped in a pillow case) and then sleep with it at my feet/ankles. It works for me. :)

I have an Otty mattress and pillow which works for me

If the weather is really hot I wrap ice packs from the freezer in a tea towel and take them to bed with me. When I get up in the night to go to the loo I put them back in the freezer and get more out.

Yeah I basically always sleep with an ice pack on my legs, alternating. When I get up to pee I swap them out. I'm pretty happy I've managed to sleep 4 hours lately with no interruption lately. A major accomplishment!

I recently purchased a mattress that has a gel pouch attached to it. Was told it was to cool you down but to be honest it’s made no difference! It’s rather deep and finding sheets that fit was hard. I find my pet cooling mat that I purchased is so much better have this at the bottom of the bed for my feet.

It is best not to buy any foam mattresses. They gas off and are often the cause of all kinds of light inflammation in the Body. Cotton with horse hair and natural latex are best. Expensive but don’t forget we spend1/3 of our lives sleeping.

Until then, What Greeks do during 40+ degrees is like naked with a damp beach towel covering them. Works every time. Also, a few cotton towels (not the fluffy ones) put between you and the mattress. 😉 Good luck tonight and don’t forget to air out the whole home during the night and darken up and close out all heat during the day!

I loved my memory foam mattress but it did get hot. When it was time to change it last year I went for an Otty mattress which is memory foam and stubby little springs. It's much cooler. I am doubtful that it is as comfortable (both my partner and I have suffered bad backs after getting it, but that is not likely to be down to the mattress - more to age and activities). If you enjoy hotel beds, you will like the Otty. In this hot weather it has been a cool oasis.

I used to have a double pillow top mattress with a Summer (cooling) side and a Winter (heating) side. Don't recall the brand name. You might first try something a bit cheaper like

cooling sheets

amazon.com/Bedsure-Viscose-...

or a cooling bed pad

amazon.com/TEXARTIST-Mattre...

Hope that helps

I actually have a mattress topper just like that. What annoys me is it will say cotton but it's really a combo of cotton and polyester. The past few days I tried going without the topper to see if it would be cooler. It may have seemed slightly cooler, but it turns out it was making my itching way worse! That's why yesterday was so bad for me, I was itching for like two hours after I got out of bed thanks to sleeping directly on the memory foam.

I definitely wanna get the cooling sheets because I have one sheet with too high a thread coubt so it's too hot. The other sheet is irratating to my skin and traps heat as well.

Lastly I need to find non stretchy socks as that irratates my ankles.

That sounds like significant skin sensitivity. I experience much the same thing. There are some fabrics that drive me nuts. One thing that helps is to switch over to laundry detergents/fabric softeners that have no perfumes/dyes.

Maybe look at trying to reduce systemic inflammation as well. The MPN-mutations can drive up the production of inflammatory cytokines, which is thought to cause many of the secondary symptoms we experience. I have found a few things that help: ceramide-based body cleansers, ceramide cream to maintain skin moisture barrier, Eucrisa for outbreaks, curcumin supplement to reduce inflammation.

Hope you find solutions that work for you.

I sleep on a blow up mattress. It's 24 " tall from a local hardware store in their camping supplies & costs $70.00. I originally bought it because I was moving into a new house and my furniture hadn't been sent yet. They only last for about 10 months but I find it so comfortable that I sleep on it all the time. Very cool and firmness can be adjusted. My father is rolling in his grave because we had a furniture store for over 75 years that sold high-quality mattresses and his daughter is sleeping on a blow-up mattress. On hot nights I pop my feet out the bottom of the sheets and keep a fan running on them. Drink lots of water.

Stay cool

They are great for keeping warm here in England in Winter, under a thick duck feather and down duvet. The hot water bottles stay hot all night.

The memory foam traps the heat.

It seems to me that I saw some mattresses on this site hugoandsons.co.uk/beds/slei..., but it was a long time ago because now they have wholly retrained in creating beds. And by the way, I recently bought myself a sleigh bed, and I don't even need to worry about the mattress. And I admit, it's much better than buying a bed for yourself and then looking for some mattress. Before I purchased this bed for myself, I had terrible back pain, I thought it was because I don't do sports and sit all day, but it turned out that it was just the same as the mattress. On the previous bed, my back was uncomfortable, which means that the muscles were constantly tense and then hurt.
