Aspirin

Hi guys!

Hope everyone is keeping well. Quick query, I’m going to get a beauty procedure done and have been advised to come off Aspirin prior to avoid excess bleeding, the clinic advised me to speak with my GP to determine when to come off it I.e. 72/48/24 hrs. So far my GP has said they don’t advise on this...has anyone had to temporarily come off Aspirin and if so is there a standard timeframe to do this to reduce bleeding?

I’m on 75mg daily and can go back on it as soon as the procedure is over so I’m not concerned about a short break, just wondering if there is a minimum period required to ensure the blood is not too thin?

Thanks

Kerry :-)

Hi Kerry,

Good Morning.

Haematologists do not usually recommend coming off aspirin for minor surgical procedures. I was advised to keep taking them when I had a chunk cut out of my nose to remove a Basal Cell Carcinoma. I did bleed a lot but with applied pressure and a dressing it eventually stopped. Have you asked your Haem?

I think that I would prefer to continue with the aspirin but I expect it depends on how invasive your procedure is going to be.

Best Wishes.

Glad you are sorted. Did the Haem agree with your GP?

Haem said it takes about a week for blood to thicken a bit, she gave me the all clear to temporarily stop taking it and then start again as soon as procedure is done 👍

Hi, I’ve had general anaesthetic since diagnosed a few times. Wish it was for beauty!! Anyway it the doctor and his team doing the procedure who dictated but confirmed with my heamo.

Hope you love the results

Depends on what the procedure is. For something minor - my docs say 3 days. For something major - 7 days. Also pay attention to blood thinning supplements like curcumin and Fish Oil.

I’ve been told three days as well but each is different. We don’t all “bleed” alike. Good luck
