I am still putting off taking hydrea. Just taking aspirin and can imagine how you feel looking out for symptoms , positive or otherwise , how are you this evening ?
Hi good thanks I put off Hydrea for awhile I was very nervous about taking it but I am pretty good I have a high platelets of 800 and have ET so I am on Asprin also do you have the same as me thanks for answering
I felt good and I had better energy while on Hydrea. Most people on this forum have no problems taking Hydrea. I was on it for 6 months just under a year ago. I worried the first couple of days, but things improved. While I felt well, I had to stop because it made my platelets fluctuate wildly. I have PV and I am now on Pegasys (and aspirin).
Morning Windy51 - I was very fatigued for 3 months when I first started taking Hydrea. I could barely function. It was so bad I seriously considered speaking to my Haem about coming off it. Then, for no apparent reason the fatigued stopped and I felt better than I had done in years and my blood levels were the best they had been in many years. I've been feeling great since. Also best to speak to your Dr about pain as I have no idea.
Dyspnea and asthenia (short of breath and fatigue) are common reactions to HU. While there are other potential side effects, the hip pain is likely unrelated. HU will do nothing for the hip pain, it does not work that way.
If you are taking aspirin, then you do need to be careful with other NSAIDs. You must use caution with acetaminophen. Ibuprofen + aspirin requires even more caution. See below from ePocrates.
buprofen + aspirin
avoid aspirin >325 mg/day; otherwise, monitor bleeding s/sx; give ibuprofen dose >400 mg 8h before or at least 2-4h after low-dose aspirin ER: combo may incr. risk of GI ulceration, perforation, other bleeding (incl. life-threatening), other adverse effects; ibuprofen may inhibit cardioprotective effect of low-dose aspirin (additive effects; possible competition for platelet binding sites)
acetaminophen + aspirin
monitor renal fxn, especially w/ long-term concomitant tx: combo may incr. risk of nephrotoxicity (additive effects)
Hope you adjust to the HU, but if not there are other options. DO be sure to talk to your doc about what you are experiencing. ALl the best to you.
