Hi - I have taken HU for the past 18 months, and continue to do so daily, and also take a daily multi-vitamin with no problems at all.

Hi Lorrmac, welcome to the group,I hope you find all the information your looking for on here. Any questions, ask away, you will the majority of the time get a response. Regarding your question about Hydrea and vitamins I would ask your Haemotologist as unless you were deficient in any particular vitamin their really would be no point in taking them but obviously if prescribed by your Gp their shouldn't be a problem as a lot of us on here do take vitamin d as a lot of us have been told we are deficient in it. Again welcome and have a good look on the Mpn voice page to find out more information on Et and symptoms and also Hydrea. Atb,tina.🤗

hello Lorrmac and welcome to our forum, love the photo. As Tina has said, have a look at our website mpnvoice.org.uk, you will find lots of very useful information on there. And also with regards, to vitamins, it is best to ask your consultant before you take any vitamins or supplements to make sure that they are ok to take with any medication you are taking for your MPN, and also, to make sure you need to take any. Best wishes, Maz

You are wise to pay attention to the interactions between supplements and your medications. HU and vitamins should be fine as far as I know. If you are also on aspirin, that is the one to watch for. Supplements with blood thinning qualities (e.g. fish oil, garlic) can potentiate the aspirin and put you at increased risk for hemorrhage. Always best to check with a doc or pharmacist about this. Sometimes pharmacists are more tuned in to these issues.

All the best.

Hi hunter5582,

Thanks for bringing my attention to aspirin, as I am indeed taking aspirin. I will be checking with my specialist nurse before I take any vitamins.

Wow, so pleased I joined this forum. Useful having people to chat to out there.

Take care lorrmac

Hi Lorrmac,

Beautiful picture. Welcome to our group. I take many supplements including high dose fish oil, high dose Vit C, extremely high dose D (40,000IU weekly), B complex, more Ginkgo/less aspirin, Magnesium, Zinc, Melatonin, CoQ10, chlorella and Silicium colloid, Selenium, L-Glutamine . I take all natural vitamins. I am usually low on almost all of these. (Many of us are, especially if we have autoimmune problems, intolerances and allergies.

I take Anagrelid. Nevertheless, Most of these are anti oxidants and shouldn’t be taken close to medication, since they may get rid of your meds. Anagrelid has a half life of 1.3 hours. I calculated and found that I can take my Anagrelid at 8am, 4pm and 9:30. I therefore take the Anti Ox supplements at about 12:00 and 7pm. The others morning and night.

I am doing very well while getting rid of heavy metals, toxins, sleeping better and getting my vit and mineral housekeeping balanced. Hope to have helped. Anag

Hi,

Welcome to our wonderful group. I had a bad reaction with a common multivitamin I had been taking for years (Centrum Silver) after starting the hydroxy. My head pounded hard, sometimes neck & shoulders, always when I lay down but sometimes when standing. MRI & CT scan showed nothing but was tested for high folate (because my mouth looked so red). Two weeks after stopping the multivitamin my head stopped pounding. Absolute heaven.

I have found Ginseng & Turmeric to be very helpful. Go for good quality and try to buy local. There are many companies using inferior or even harmful fillers.
