Hi Socrates, once again you provided encouraging fact based evidence regarding improved QLI possibilities!
When first diagnosed with ET in May my regimen of exercise was faltering. I was tired overwhelmed and had way to many questions. My platelets were 576 at initial diagnosis. I became somewhat depressed , and knew I had to be educated learning to self advocate etc. I’m Blest to have a great support group leader , excellent Docs who guide as well as listen. Most of all close family support and my spiritual life anchored in God.
So I got serious about swimming which I’ve done for years. Also some resistance exercises. Since getting focused on swimming vigorously back in August 6/7 days a week, , 45 minutes daily my symptom burden has decreased dramatically. My platelets are in the high 4’s and low 5’s the blood counts are stable. I feel fairly normal, mood is elevated no longer depressed, and exhaustion has been replaced by energy as energy begets energy. My last oncologist early October appt the Doc said keep doing what your doing. See me in January. So with vigorous exercise , baby aspirin , Mediterranean food focus , Tumeric , Fish Oil, Vit D3, spiritual prayer intensity my health is stable. I know things can always shift but if we pay attention to the kind of hopeful articles you always post we can find ways to better manage our health and improve our Quality of Life.
So the article is awesome to encourage us to get moving even when our minds say no, I’m convinced my aerobic swimming fly, freestyle and backstroke is my lifeline. Thanks for your encouraging posts!

Hey Clarke...
Thanks for your encouraging replies...
I believe quite firmly that we are ALL in this together irrespective of national boundaries, culture, race or religion...
Hence, I am always endeavouring to learn things that might matter, to all or even just some of us, and then of course to share whatever I might have gleaned...
Like all things in life, we just need to take what applies to us and leave the rest, given whatever stage we might presently find ourselves in etc...
Swimming is an excellent form of exercise, as it is also a resistance form too, and not much is not exercised in its practice... Really well done! You do sound quite fit. {
Feels great feeling fitter again does it not?
Me? I have found that cycling is working really well, and I try to always do some light aerobic training prior to heading out, along with very light weights. Diet is really important to if one wishes to shed unwanted kilos, as a new cyclist, it's all about the physics, and the least weight I carry, the easier the cycling – especially up those long steeper hills...
Thanks Clarke
Stay happy & strong...
Best wishes

Hi Steve, there actually are studies done with MPN patients which show exercise is helpful. But I want to stress that we need to take it very easy. While I can exercise with 20 minutes of slow walking some days, there are times when that same amount of slow walking has left me exhausted for more than an entire day and a half. And I can’t find any reason for the different outcome so I’m stuck not knowing what to do for exercise. But my doctor has given me two breathing devices to use which will strengthen my lungs without needing the aerobic exercises. If anyone is in a similar position I encourage you to consider them. I’m very happy for you, Steve, that all this works so well for you. Btw, I have either ET or pre-fibrotic MF so nothing that would explain my difficulties. Katie
