Very worried about unexplained Bruises

Hi all my question is does anyone find unexplained Bruises on their body. Ive had a few small ones appearing on my legs but I put it down to maybe having small knocks? I was prescribed tinzaparin a few weeks ago to take before a flight and experienced severe brushing at the injection sites but it did heal after a few weeks back at home. I've noticed today a large bruise on my stomach equally as severe as the tinzaparin bruises but without having the injection. I'm quite worried as it's located at the bottom of my tummy where I think would be difficult to knock and to be honest I think judging by the Colour you'd know if you'd knocked it. Does anyone else experience this ? I'm just wondering if I should be doing something about it? I don't think it's related to the tinzaparin after all these weeks. I would appreciate any feedback as I'm quite worried. I have ET Jak 2 +.

Hi, even before ET diagnosis. All through childhood always had bruises and still have them. I even had a few whoppers those I photographed and sent to my blood nurse. After consulting the doctor I was told to stop taking turmeric

I seem to go through phases. We are all different. .

Just make sure your heamo knows.

I am not familiar with the drug you were given but it sounds like a blood thinner which would account for the initial bruising. Are you on aspirin?

I don’t think you should ignore this ,if your bruising this badly then something is not right. Make an apt with your GP so they can see this, or better still call your haematologist.

I am on clopidogrel blood thinner and expect bruises here and there anytime but have not any real big or nasty one. Blood thinners can give us bruises.

Yes, I have bruises which seem to appear by themselves, apart from the ones I know about when I have knocked into something. These are mostly on legs and arms. I have a huge one round my ankle which has spread across the side of my foot and I have no recollection of knocking my ankle or foot on anything. This has appeared this week. I too am ET JAK2+. And on Aspirin. So far I haven't noticed any on my tummy. Take care and hope you get some answers. I've just put it down to the ET and Aspirin. Regards, Fran

I often had unexplained bruising and excessive bleeding and bruising when I was on aspirin. Used to have ET, which progressed to PV - so aspirin was part the standard treatment protocol. Turns out that I am one of those with an MPN that when my platelet levels rise, it is actually my risk of hemorrhage that increases. For some of us with a MPN, when we are in thrombocytosis, it is actually the risk of bleeding that increases - even without a blood thinner. It is important for your doc to figure out what your body's response to platelet levels is in determining what your treatment needs are.

My regular hematologist did not pick up on this. I went to consult with a MPN specialist who figured this out. He rather prophetically stated "you really do not want to get a brain bleed." Two weeks later I was diagnosed with a hemorrhagic brain tumor. Big surprise to everyone (me included). Definitely did not want to be taking a blood thinner after that! However, some people with a MPN experience TIAs, DVTs, and strokes due to thrombotic events. We are each different in how our MPN presents and each need an individualized treatment plan.

Hope you get answers to your situation ASAP.

I get them all over - PV Jak2+ on Aspirin and venesection. Most of the time the bruises are unexplained (I've had one just below waist height on my back - no knocks or bumps) And I've thought 'How the hell did that get there'. I do have one permanent bruise that I know is caused by the top of my ankle boots. It looks like I'm wearing an ankle bracelet on my right leg - I can't wear slip-on shoes as I had a stroke which affected my right leg/foot - they fall off when I take a step. So, my ankle bracelet bruise is always going to be there.

Venesection causes huge purple/black bruising for me. They're always from shoulder to wrist on the venesection arm. They look so bad and last so long that I rarely wear sleeveless tops/dresses.

I mention bruising to my Haem every 8 weeks and nothing is ever 'made of it' So, as before I just put it down to PV and Aspirin.

Best wishes, Kari.

My wife uses 15 ml of Liposomal vitamin C three times a day to control bruising. It builds collagen and is a JAK2 inhibitor. She has MF.
